California high school football recruiting notebook: Stacy Bey, Kalolo Ta'aga reopen recruitments
Seniors Stacy Bey and Kalolo Ta'aga, who both entered the 2023 season committed to Mountain West schools, reopened their recruitments this week.
Bey, who transferred into Rancho Cucamonga from Bishop Amat following his junior season, decommitted from San Diego State. The talented linebacker and running back had committed to the Aztecs in March. He took an official visit to Arizona this past weekend after adding an offer from the Wildcats in August.
Kalolo Ta'aga (6-7, 265) began playing football in the spring for Archbishop Riordan and is playing his lone high school season this year. Despite that, offers arrived prior to his first official game leading him to commit to San Jose State in July. Now that other schools have had the chance to see him in action, the offers are flowing in.
Arizona, Florida and Cal have all extended offers with several other schools keeping tabs on the offensive tackle. He officially decommitted from San Jose State last week.
Aaron Butler prepping for Colorado
Butler, a senior wide receiver and defensive back at Calabasas, has stepped away from the team for the remainder of the 2023 season. By taking several classes online, Butler will be set to graduate from Calabasas at the semester and enroll at Colorado in time for spring football.
The top-ranked commit in Colorado's 2024 recruiting class according to 247sports.com, Butler initially committed to USC before reopening his recruitment and choosing the Buffaloes.
Aydin Breland preparing commitment
After collecting nearly 30 scholarship offers during his recruitment, Mater Dei senior Aydin Breland has cut his list to three schools. The five-star defensive lineman, ranked as the second best defensive lineman nationally by 247sports.com, is down to Georgia, Oregon and Miami.
Breland, who is also a standout performer in the shot put and discus during the spring, plans to announce his commitment on Saturday, October 14. The day before, Breland and the Monarchs will make a visit to take on Trinity League rival St. John Bosco in what has become one of the nation's biggest rivalry games.
Will Cianfrini soaring with Carlsbad
Will Cianfrini transferred into Carlsbad this season after moving in from Galveston, Texas. Cianfrini (6-4, 185) has quickly caught on while receiving passes from Alabama five-star quarterback commit Julian Sayin. The Lancers are 6-0 and are beating teams by an average of 34 points per game, lessening the need for Cianfrini and others to put up huge numbers.
He caught his third touchdown of the season last Friday night, reeling in a jump ball from Sayin in the end zone with three seconds remaining in the first half of a win over Mission Hills. Cianfrini's first touchdown of the season was a juggling one-handed grab on ESPN2 earlier in the year.
After Friday's game, Cianfrini mentioned San Diego State and Tulane as schools that he is looking at setting up visits to.
