Top 10 California high school football LA City Section rankings 9/4/23

Granada Hills climbs after topping Palisades, while Dymally debuts in the Top 10 after starting 3-0.

The latest Los Angeles City Section football Top 10 rankings as of Sept. 4, heading into Week 3.

1. Birmingham Charter (2-1): The Patriots beat Oak Park on the road 56-7.

Last week: No. 1 – | Next up: vs. Hueneme

2. Garfield (2-1): Jayden Barnes had three receptions for 106 yards and a TD in a 50-6 in over King/Drew.

Last week: No. 2 – | Next up: at Golden Vally

3. Carson (3-0): The Colts beat North Torrance 21-7.

Last week: No. 3 – | Next up: at Paramount

4. San Pedro (1-1): The Pirates fall to Lawndale 14-13, but a loss to a formidable Southern Section team always holds more weight in these rankings.

Last week: No. 4 – | Next up: vs. Torrance

5. Cleveland (3-0): The Cavs rolled Reseda 53-0.

Last week: No. 6 ↑ | Next up: at Hamilton, Thursday, 3:30 p.m.

6. Banning (2-1): A set back to Pasadena Muir 20-15 will make Banning better.

Last week: No. 5 ↓ | Next up: vs. Western, 7:30 p.m.

7. Granada Hills (1-1-1): Darrell Stanley rushed for 129 yards and two TDs on 18 carries to anchor a 26-10 win over Palisades.

8. Venice (1-1): The Gondoliers fell to Harvard-Westlake of the Southern Section, 13-7.

9. Franklin (1-1-1): The Panthers beat Southern Section's San Gabriel 45-26.

10. Dymally (3-0): The Challengers debut in the top 10 rankings after starting 3-0 including a win over Ventura Buena, 47-41, and Taft, 52-20, last week. QB Jermaine Whiten has thrown six TDs and no interceptions.
