SBLIVE’S LA CITY SECTION TOP 10 BASEBALL RANKINGS

May 9, 2022

1. Granada Hills (23-4-1)

Last week: 1

Granada Hills won the West Valley League with a 9-1 record. The Highlanders will be the top seed in the LA City Section Open Division playoffs when the brackets are released on Monday.

2. Birmingham (19-9)

Last week: 2

The Patriots swept Taft last week before dropping a league game against Chatsworth that was resumed from earlier in the season due to an umpire error. Birmingham finishing in second place in the West Valley League should lead to the No. 2 seed in the Open Division playoffs.

3. El Camino Real (17-11)

Last week: 3

ECR swept Cleveland last week. The Royals finished in third place in the West Valley League.

4. Roosevelt (22-6)

Last week: 4

Roosevelt won the Eastern League championship this season. The Roughriders have one of the City's top pitchers in the City on its roster in Lino Zepeda. If Roosevelt gets the No. 4 seed in the Open Division they'll have a bye, which means Zepeda would throw in the second round of the playoffs. That would be a massive boost.

5. Marshall (25-3)

Last week: 5

Marshall won 20 games in a row to end the regular season. The Barristers will be a tough out in the Open Division playoffs.

6. Carson (18-10)

Last week: 6

Carson won the Marine League for the first time since 2018. The Colts should get a home game in the first round of the Open Division playoffs.

7. San Pedro (18-8)

Last week: 7

San Pedro has beaten No. 9 Palisades, No. 10 Poly and split with No. 6 Carson this year. The Pirates lost to No. 1 Granada Hills, No. 4 Roosevelt and unranked Narbonne.

8. Chatsworth (12-14)

Last week: 8

Chatsworth finished 3-7 in the West Valley League this year, but the Chancellors are one of only three City Section teams to beat No. 2 Birmingham this season. Chatsworth has also beaten No. 9 Palisades and No. 10 Poly, but lost to unranked Sylmar.

9. Palisades (21-6-1)

Last week: 9

Palisades has beaten No. 4 Roosevelt this season, but the Dolphins' losses to No. 7 San Pedro and No. 8 Chatsworth make it tough to pinpoint where they'll be seeded in the City Section Open Division playoffs.

10. Poly (20-8)

Last week: 10

Poly won the East Valley League with a 12-0 record. The Parrots' best non-league wins came against Taft and Cleveland.

Honorable mention: Sylmar and Cleveland
