We had hoped to do a breakdown of ranked wrestlers in each state and see who had the most number ones and most ranked guys to kick off the new year. That breakdown will come next week as the sheer volume of holiday tournaments took forever to go over.

This week sees the last of the big-time tournaments with the Doc B Tournament in California hosted by No. 21 Clovis. This tournament is on the level of Beast of the East and PowerAde (nothing is quite like Ironman), with ranked teams and tons of ranked individuals making the westward trek.

Other top 50 teams in Mat Scouts rankings on hand at Doc B are No. 4 Poway (CA), No. 5 St. Edward (OH), No. 10 Buchanan (CA), No. 11 Gilroy (CA), No. 12 St. John Bosco (PA), No. 28 Bakersfield (PA), No. 30 Pomona (CO), No. 49 Layton (UT), and No. 39 Buford (GA), who is bringing only their studs out west, and not their full team.

Speaking of full teams, squads like Poway and Gilroy, who have such large numbers that they rarely field their optimal lineups will be bringing all their big guns out for this affair. We went over the seeds and moved wrestlers around as needed.

The Geary Invitational in Oklahoma will be held this weekend and holds the designation as the country’s oldest in-season high school wrestling tournament. Two other big events are taking place in Wisconsin, The Cheeshead Invitational at Kaukauna High School and the Clash National duals in LaCrosse.
