CLASS 3A GIRLS SUMMARIES (Bracket)

Final: No. 3 Snohomish 45, No. 5 Arlington 25

The two 3A Wesco rivals had played close games earlier this season - ones that were decided in the final minute.

But not Thursday.

From later in the first quarter to early in the fourth quarter, Arlington went a grand total of 21:28 without a field goal - 25 missed shots in a row.

"We put something in right before Garfield, but I did not feel it was quite ready for Katie Fiso," Snohomish girls coach Ken Roberts said. "We did something similar against Samara (Morrow) ... and just amped it up a little bit.

"We did a few things where we threw the kitchen sink at them."

Junior Tyler Gildersleeve-Stiles was Snohomish's offensive catalyst with 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Kendall Hammer added 11.

Up next: Snohomish (19-6) plays Mead (25-1) at 7:15 p.m. Friday in the semifinals. Arlington (21-4) plays Bonney Lake (20-5) at 12:15 p.m. Friday in a loser-out consolation game.

Final: No. 1 Mead 72, No. 7 Bonney Lake 44

Mead opened the second half with a quick 10-0 run to take a double-digit lead for good, led by as many as 28, and cruised into the semifinals with a convincing win over Bonney Lake on Thursday evening in the Tacoma Dome.

“We just had to come in, be ourselves, play how we know how to play, and just be calm,” Mead guard Teryn Gardner said.

Bonney Lake kept the score close early, but Gardner — who hit five of Mead’s 11 3-pointers in the contest — gave the Panthers a 32-25 lead at the break, and they continued to build it from there.

Mead shot an impressive 28-of-60 (46.7 percent) from the floor, including 11-of-24 (45.8) from 3-point range.

“Shots were just falling,” Gardner said.

Mead also tallied 27 turnovers on defense, including 15 in the second half, to run away with the win.

“We kept up the defensive pressure for sure,” Gardner said. “We never stopped. We like to go hard 100 percent of the time, and just never give up and never let them back in the game.”

Addison Wells-Morrison scored a game-high 26 points for Mead and added five assists. Gardner had 25 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals in the win.

Jazmyn Shipp posted a double-double for Bonney Lake with 15 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three blocks. Evin Elias added 15 points, and Ava Rice had 12 points and seven rebounds.

Mead, which has advanced to the semifinals each of the past two seasons, will look to reach the championship game for the first time since the program’s 4A title win in 2013 in Friday’s semifinals.

The Panthers placed third in the 3A tournament last year, and fifth in 2022.

“We’re really ready,” Gardner said. “It’s about time. We’ve got to get it done.”

Up next: Mead (25-1) plays Snohomish (19-6) at 7:15 p.m. Friday in the semifinals. Bonney Lake (20-5) plays Arlington (21-4) at 12:15 p.m. Friday in a loser-out consolation game.

Final: No. 6 Garfield 54, No. 12 Everett 43

It wasn’t until the final minute of the third quarter Garfield took the lead for good, but the Bulldogs’ chance to win a fourth consecutive state title will continue Friday in the semifinals.

In a game that featured 10 lead changes and five ties, Garfield and Everett went back-and-forth early, with the Bulldogs eventually taking a 27-19 lead into the halftime break.

Then Everett opened the third quarter on an 11-0 run, eventually taking a three-point lead on an Alana Washington basket. But, the Bulldogs closed the quarter on a 10-1 run, taking the lead for the final time on a three-point play from Sarah Lessig with 34.8 seconds left.

“Throughout the whole game we had some strong defense, we were playing aggressive and we upped the level of that in the third quarter, so I think that’s what let us come ahead and get the win,” Lessig said.

Garfield continued to build on the lead in the fourth, and it never dropped below double digits following a Katie Fiso basket midway through the quarter. The Bulldogs eventually led by as many as 14.

Fiso, an Oregon signee, led all scorers with 30 points, including 10 in the final quarter, and added six rebounds and three steals.

Lessig added 15 points, seven rebounds and six steals for the Bulldogs.

Washington paced Everett with 18 points, six rebounds, three blocks and three steals.

Up next: Garfield (19-3) plays Lakeside (24-3) at 9 p.m. Friday in the semifinals. Everett (18-9) plays North Thurston (20-3) at 2 p.m. Friday in a loser-out consolation game.

Final: No. 2 Lakeside of Seattle 62, No. 8 North Thurston 49

The Lions built a double-digit lead early in the second half, and kept it there most of the way in a quarterfinals win over North Thurston on Thursday night in the Tacoma Dome.

Lakeside led by as many as 19 in the second half. North Thurston cut the lead back to single digits in the fourth quarter, but never closer than six points.

“It was back-and-forth a lot,” Lions guard Willa Chinn said. “I’d look up at the scoreboard, up down, up down, but I think that the way that we’ve had success all season has been staying together as a team.

“We just stayed tough through it, and that’s how we got here.”

Mia Broom led all scorers with 26 points, and added seven rebounds and six steals. Chinn added 18 points, eight rebounds and three steals for the Lions.

Grace Lee paced North Thurston with 18 points, while Soraya Ogaldez had 16 and six steals.

The victory sends Lakeside to the state semifinals for the first time since the program’s 3A title win in 2003.

Up next: Lakeside (24-3) plays Garfield (19-3) at 9 p.m. Friday in the semifinals. North Thurston (20-3) plays Everett (18-9) at 2 p.m. Friday in a loser-out consolation game.
