SPOKANE, WASHINGTON - The 2024 WIAA 2B boys and girls high school basketball state tournament continued Thursday (February 29) with the quarterfinals at Spokane Arena.

The Class 2B girls quarterfinal games were played first, with No. 3 Okanogan vs. No. 4 Colfax tipping off the action at 9 a.m. All eyes were on Colfax junior Brynn McGaughy, one of the top class of 2025 girls basketball players in the country. She recently trimmed her list of colleges to 12, with UConn, Tennessee, Duke and USC among her finalists. 

The 2B boys state quarterfinals were played in the afternoon starting at 3:45 p.m., with No. 6 Toutle Lake playing No. 4 Lake Roosevelt in the first boys quarterfinal.

CLASS 2B GIRLS SCORES, UPDATES

QUARTERFINAL 1: No. 3 Okanogan 44, No. 4 Colfax 37, Final

Brynn McGaughy, Colfax girls basketball

Brynn McGaughy, one of the top players in the country in the class of 2025, was held to 17 points in Colfax's loss to Okanogan in the 2024 WIAA 2B state quarterfinals.

Game summary: Alex Goetz led a balanced attack with 12 points as Okanogan used a suffocating defense to knock off defending state champion Colfax 44-37 in the 2B girls basketball quarterfinals Thursday morning. Jacey Boesel added 10 points for Okanogan. 

The Bulldogs allowed just 15 first-half point and forced Colfax into a 6-for-22 shooting performance over the first 16 minutes. Colfax rallied in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to four points on multiple occasions, but they couldn't get any closer. Brynn McGaughy led Colfax with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.

1st quarter: Okanogan's press is giving Colfax fits. Brynn McGaughy scored her first points on a 3-pointer with two minutes left in the quarter. She finished the quarter with 3 points after being forced into tough mid-range jumpshots coming off high ball screens. Okanogan leads 12-5 after the 1st quarter.

2nd quarter: Okanogan's swarming defense is the story of the first half. The Bulldogs blitzed Colfax with pressure and forced them into tough, contested shots. Colfax didn't help themselves by missing multiple point-blank layups. Okanogan leads 23-15 at halftime.

3rd quarter: Okanogan extends its lead in the third quarter, allowing just 7 points to take a 10-point lead heading into the final quarter. Their suffocating, physical man-to-man defense continues to be the difference. Okanogan leads 32-22 after three quarters.

4th quarter: Colfax cuts it to 36-32 with 2:45 left in the game on a layup by Brynn McGaughy off an OB play. ... McGaughy drills a 3-pointer with 51.1 seconds left to cut Okanogan's lead to 40-35. ... Okanogan makes its free throws down the stretch to pull out a 44-37 victory and advance to the 2B state semifinals.

QUARTERFINAL 2: No. 2 Warden 72, No. 8 Mabton 64

Game summary: Lauryn Madsen recorded a rare triple-double with 28 points, 13 rebounds and 10 steals to lead Warden to a 72-64 win over Mabton in the WIAA 2B girls basketball quarterfinals on Thursday morning. 

QUARTERFINAL 3: No. 6 Adna 62, No. 12 Toutle Lake 36, Final

Game summary: Karsyn Freeman scored 31 points and Gaby Guard added 15 as Adna rolled to a 62-36 victory over Toutle Lake in the WIAA 2B girls basketball quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon. Adna will play the winner of Napavine vs. Brewster in Friday's semifinals.

QUARTERFINAL 4: No. 1 Napavine 48, No. 7 Brewster 46, Final

Game summary: Hayden Kaut had 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead Napavine over Brewster in the final 2B girls quarterfinal. Napavine will play Adna in the 2B semifinals on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

CLASS 2B BOYS SCORES, UPDATES

QUARTERFINAL 1: No. 4 Lake Roosevelt 69, No. 6 Toutle Lake 31, Final

Game summary: Lake Roosevelt raced out to a 16-6 first quarter lead and never looked back, routing Toutle Lake 69-31 in the 2B boys basketball quarterfinals on Thursday night. Lake Roosevelt advances to the 2B semifinals where they will play the winner of Adna vs. Columbia at 7:15 p.m. Friday.

Ivan Alejandre led Lake Roosevelt with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Brandon Pino added 14 points and 4 assists, and Chase Marchand had 13 points and 5 steals.

Toutle Lake vs. Lake Roosevelt in 2024 WIAA 2B boys basketball quarterfinals

QUARTERFINAL 2: No. 1 Columbia of Burbank 74, No. 10 Adna 68, Final

Game summary: Quincy Scott had 27 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists to lead top-seeded Columbia over Adna in the 2B boys basketball quarterfinals Thursday night. Columbia moves on to face Lake Roosevelt in Friday's semifinals at 7:15 p.m.

QUARTERFINAL 3: No. 3 Colfax 68, No. 12 Wahkiakum 31, Final

Game summary: Jayce Kelly racked up 20 points and 13 rebounds to lead Colfax to a 68-31 win over Wahkiakum in the 2B boys basketball quarterfinals Thursday night. Adrik Jenkin added 14 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks.

QUARTERFINAL 4: No. 2 Napavine 66, No. 9 Northwest Christian of Colbert 59, Final

Game summary: James Grose had 24 points and 11 rebounds and Karsen Denault added 21 points and 7 rebounds to lead Napavine over Northwest Christian in the 2B boys basketball quarterfinals Thursday night. Napavine moves on to play Colfax in the 2B semifinals Friday night at 9 p.m.
