WASHINGTON NOMINEES
Ellie Bessonette, Cashmere girls basketball: Junior led the Bulldogs to their 11th consecutive Caribou Trail title by scoring a game-high 30 points - 24 coming in the first half - in a road win at Chelan.
Landen Birley, West Valley of Yakima boys basketball: Junior point guard broke into the 1,000-point scoring club with 23 points, including five 3-pointers, in a 4A CBBN win over Wenatchee. Had 28 points and five assists later against Moses Lake.
Ashlan Bryant, Deer Park girls basketball: Ninth grade guard racked up a game-high 29 points as the Stags finished the regular season as the only undefeated program in Class 1A with a win over Colville.
Anthony Canales, Lynden boys basketball: Powered the Lions' offense with 21 points in a win against Ferndale, 30 points in a loss to Mount Vernon - and a game-high 32 points in a rivalry victory Saturday at Lynden Christian.
Jaxon Dubiel and Zaveon Jones, Mountlake Terrace boys basketball: Senior teammates went over 1,000 career points the same week - Jones against Shorecrest and Dubiel with his school-record 40 points in win over Cascade of Everett.
Teryn Gardner, Mead girls basketball: With the Greater Spokane League title on the line, this Boise State signee was on fire - a career-high 36 points on 14-of-23 shooting, including six 3-pointers in a win over Gonzaga Prep.
Addison Harris, Camas girls basketball: Papermakers rolled to another 4A GHSL title with wins over Skyview (28 points) and Union (20 points) - and also a big non-conference win over No. 1 Oregon program Clackamas (14 points, 13 rebounds).
James Grose, Napavine boys basketball: Became first Lewis County athlete in 19 years to eclipse 2,000 career points with his 31 points on 13-of-24 shooting in a win over Adna. Scored 36 points the game after against Morton-White Pass.
Lily Mattison and Ava Rodman, R.A. Long girls bowling: Pair finished 1-2 in the WIAA Class 2A/1A individual competition at Bowlero in leading Lumberjacks to runaway team title. Mattison won with 1,106 pins; Rodman was runner-up at 1,104.
Soraya Ogaldez, North Thurston girls basketball: Junior had a game-high 28 points and seven assists as Rams finished unbeaten run to 3A SSC title with win over Timberline. Had 36 points and eight assists earlier in week against Gig Harbor.
Tamia Yeager, Spanaway Lake girls bowling: Collected the WIAA Class 3A individual title with a six-game series of 1,256 pins, which was the highest score of the three competing classifications at Bowlero.
