CLASS 1A BOYS RANKINGS

2022-23 Hardwood Classic 1A boys championship: Lynden Christian-King's

1. ANNIE WRIGHT

Standout junior guards Jeremiah Harshman and Martin Kaupanger lead a large group of talented returners for the Gators, who are in just their fourth season as a varsity program with back-to-back state berths.

2. LYNDEN CHRISTIAN

Graduation hit the two-time defending champions pretty hard, but with reigning state tournament MVP Jeremiah Wright in the post and guards Gannon Dykstra and Dawson Bouma back, the Lyncs should contend again.

3. ZILLAH

Gone is WIBCA 1A player of the year Luke Navarre, but the perennial contenders have back his brother, Nic, in the post as well as 6-foot-5 sophomore Dekker Van De Graaf, who had an immediate impact a season ago.

4. FREEMAN

Scotties graduated all-state guard Boen Phelps, but they appear to be the favorite in the 1A Northeast - and in position to win another trophy, keyed by a junior-heavy roster, including forward Tanner Goldsmith.

5. KING'S

Knights’ firepower took a hit when guard Cam Hiatt left for prep school in Ohio, but fellow all-state performer Nick Linhardt and a rich tradition are likely to keep King’s in state trophy conversation.

6. QUINCY

All-1A Caribou League first-teamers Julian Ibarra and Pierce Bierlink are back for the defending regular-season league champs, who already played Zillah tough this season.

7. SEATTLE ACADEMY

With 6-foot-6 forward Miles Struss and 6-2 guard Jalani Clemmons, the Cardinals look to be in position for a longer state-tournament stay than last season - and a shot at a WIAA placing trophy.

8. MERIDIAN

Forward Talon Jenkins and guard Jaeger Fyfe give the Trojans a strong 1-2 punch in the ultra-tough Northwest Conference. Meridian's last state placing was when it was 1A runner-up in 2010.

9. SETON CATHOLIC

The Cougars graduated just two seniors from their roster a season ago - and have only one playing this year. They are led by junior all-1A Trico performers Brady Angelo, Rico George and Lance Lee.

10. LA SALLE

Led by sophomore guards Jaxton Caffrey and Aden Gonzalez, the Lightning looks to move up in the 1A SCAC West and return to the state trophy for the second time in program history.

First four out: Omak, Overlake, Nooksack Valley, Chelan.
