Okanogan football player Carter Kuchenbuch voted WaFd Bank Washington High School Athlete of the Week

Congratulations to the Bulldogs' state-championship quarterback for being voted SBLive’s WaFd Bank Washington High School Athlete of the Week for Nov. 27-Dec. 2!

Congratulations to Okanogan quarterback Carter Kuchenbuch for being voted SBLive’s WaFd Bank Washington High School Athlete of the Week for Nov. 27-Dec. 2!

When the Bulldogs needed to pick up key short yardage, or close-in touchdowns - the junior came through. Kuchenbuch scored four short touchdown runs as part of his 67 rushing yards, and also had a team-high 51/2 tackles in Okanogan's win over No. 1 Napavine in the Class 2B title game.

Kuchenbuch received 76.8% of the vote, beating out Anacortes running back Brock Beaner, who finished second with 16.9%.

WASHINGTON NOMINEES

Lance Allred, Royal football: What didn't the junior do in getting the Royals their first four-peat with a victory over Lakeside of Nine Mile Falls. At quarterback, he rushed for 169 yards and three touchdowns, and passed for 183 yards and three scores. Also had two interceptions on defense.

Brock Beaner, Anacortes football: The 2A Northwest Conference MVP did not disappoint in team's first state title game - 135 rushing yards and three touchdowns, plus a 7-yard blocked punt recovery to give the Seahawks a two-score lead that they never relinquished against Tumwater.

Regan Brewer, Tumwater girls basketball: In her first game after last year's season-ending knee injury, the guard tallied a career-best 36 points, 14 rebounds, seven assists and three steals in a non-league victory over Washougal.

Kolton Matson, Lake Stevens football: In showdown of arguably top two quarterbacks in the state, Matson (231 yards, four TDs) led the Vikings to a victory with well-timed touchdown passes - a 46-yarder to Paul Varela at end of first half, and a 61-yarder to Jesse Lewis on first second-half series.

Lucien Paz, Liberty Bell football: Junior was simply unstoppable in guiding Mountain Lions to repeat title. Quarterback led the team in rushing (127 yards) and passing (187 yards) and accounted for seven touchdowns - five of them 30 yards or longer.

Jaylen Petty, Auburn boys basketball: Coming off last year's serious knee injury, the junior has exploded out of the gates - 32 points against White River, 31 points against Tahoma and 24 points against Cleveland, all non-league wins.

Carson Rubin, Bellevue football: In a defensive snot-knocker, the senior was top offensive performer for both teams in the Class 3A title game - 26 carries, 155 yards and a 1-yard touchdown. The Wolverines were a 14-0 winner, too.

Dylan Skaife, Ferris boys basketball: The guard sank seven 3-pointers en route to a season-starting 32 points in the Saxons' win over Chiawana.

Trey Spencer, Battle Ground boys basketball: Poured in a season-high 43 points, including five 3-pointers, in a non-league win over Evergreen of Vancouver.

Trinity Wheeler, Wapato girls basketball: All-SCAC guard came out firing, picking up a game-high 27 points as the Wolves defeated 2A state-tournament participant Othello in their season opener.
