SBLive 2023-24 preseason Class 2B Washington high school girls basketball rankings

Is this the classification with the best player in the state? Health permitting, Colfax junior Brynn McCaughy might put that debate to rest this winter

Based on conversations with coaches and statewide media, SBLive ranked the top 10 teams across the state of Washington in Class 2B girls basketball heading into the 2023-24 season:

CLASS 2B GIRLS RANKINGS

1. COLFAX

Junior Brynn McCaughy is state's best player. Period. But her health (foot) remains paramount to Bulldogs' chances of defending crown.

2. WARDEN

Most years, senior Lauryn Madsen (UC Irvine signee) would be talk of classification. She's that good. Has a great running mate in Makenna Klitzke.

3. OKANOGAN

With a much-improved post game, and a year-older Jacey Boesel running point, this is a better squad that finished as state runner-up last March.

4. NAPAVINE

Last season's fifth-place finisher has all the pieces - depth, premier scorer in Hayden Kaut and slick ball-handler in Taylen Evander. But who is alpha leader?

5. RAINIER

Armed with better depth and arguably the league's best player - junior point guard Angelica Askey - Mountaineers primed to be locked-in trophy team.

6. BREWSTER

Is this the next great same-class young core group around the state? This cast of talented ninth graders play like it - like they're battle-tested seniors.

7. ADNA

Graduated top two scorers from last year's sixth-place squad, but Pirates return young core - and add transfer Karsyn Freeman, 2B Pacific MVP from Raymond.

8. MABTON

Want to see all-guard fullcourt chaos? It's usually not fun to defend as guards Esmerelda Sanchez, Alana Zavala and company get up and go.

9. REARDAN

Might be a renaissance year for the six-time champions, who will ride fullcourt pressure and talent of the Waters' sisters (Tenice, Chasyn).

10. TONASKET

Up-tempo Tigers have loads of 3-point shooters, led by senior guard Jayleen Bello. Can they avoid same late-season letdown from a year ago?

First four out: Toutle Lake, Northwest Christian of Colbert, Cle Elum-Roslyn, Lake Roosevelt.
