Richland football player Brody Bocek voted WaFd Bank Washington High School Athlete of the Week
Congratulations to Richland two-way football standout Brody Bocek for being voted SBLive’s WaFd Bank Washington High School Athlete of the Week for Oct. 30-Nov. 4!
It was a long district-round week for Richland football - but it ended with Bocek cradling a football with the game-sealing interception in the Bombers' 51-44 win at 4A CBBN champion Eastmont. The sophomore also caught eight passes for 108 yards and a pair of touchdowns, including one in the fourth quarter. Earlier in the week, Richland beat Central Valley in a pigtail playoff game.
Bocek received 54.0% of the vote, beating out Curtis volleyball outside hitter Avery Cukjati, who finished second with 43.4%.

WASHINGTON NOMINEES
Avery Cukjati, Curtis girls volleyball: Junior outside hitter led all players with 24 kills as Curtis held off regular-season champion Puyallup in five sets for the 4A SPSL tournament championship. Cukjati also registered a team-high 25 digs.
Teryn Gardner, Mead girls soccer: The Gonzaga basketball signee finished off a stellar district tournament by tallying the only goal - in the 36th minute - in the Panthers' 1-0 win over Mount Spokane to capture the Class 3A District 8 title. She scored four goals in three district-tournament matches.
Logan Hofstee, West Valley of Spokane girls cross country: Gonzaga signee had a record-breaking day at Sun Willows in Pasco, winning her second consecutive Class 2A title with a 5-kilometer time of 17:20.8, setting the classification record by 32 seconds (she won the race by nearly a minute). Her time is No. 4 all-time.
Bridgette Hollifield and Jessica Meyer, Kalama girls soccer: The Chinooks dominant run continued as the school won its fourth consecutive Class 2B District IV title with a 2-0 win over Onalaska. Hollifield tallied her 39th goal this season, and Meyer extended team's shutout streak to 14 consecutive matches with a pair of saves in goal.
Maddy Jewett, Naches Valley girls soccer: Junior goalkeeper made nine saves in Rangers' district semifinal win over Royal, and then recorded 10 stops in regulation, and two more saves in the shootout as Naches Valley beat Kiona-Benton, 1-0, to win its first SCAC district title since 2014.
Gavin Packer, Skyview football: Senior is finding his all-state form quickly as the Storm advanced to WIAA tournament. He caught five passes for 166 yards and three first-half touchdowns, and also returned the kickoff 99 yards for a score to begin the second half as Skyview beated Bethel in the Class 4A district round.
Lucien Paz, Liberty Bell football: The defending Class 1B champions got off to a rousing start in these playoffs - and their new starting quarterback had a near-perfect outing. He was 12-of-13 for 152 yards and five touchdowns, and rushed for 113 yards and three scores in the team's 98-18 district-round win over Republic.
Gunnar Peterson, Eastmont football: The workhorse running back did all he could in a losing effort to Richland, rushing for a season-high 277 yards on 33 carries, including three touchdowns. He posted 100-yard rushing efforts in all 10 games, and extended the school's single-season rushing mark to 1,711 yards.
Owen Powell, Mercer Island boys cross country: It was an Islanders' individual-title sweep with Powell and ninth grader Sophia Rodriguez on the girls side. The junior posted the fastest 5K time of any of the WIAA champions - 15:19.20 - to win his first Class 3A title at Sun Willows in Pasco.
Hunter Taylor, Chiawana football: Whenever the Riverhawks needed a big second-half play to stave off Moses Lake, they went to their running back, who finished with a career-high 240 yards on 37 carries, including four touchdowns in the team's 49-32 road crossover-playoff victory.
