Jacob Cofie gives pledge to Virginia Cavaliers men's basketball

Four-star forward from Eastside Catholic is the No. 61 recruit in the 2024 class, according to ESPN.com

Another one of the best basketball players in the Northwest is headed to join coach Tony Bennett and the Virginia Cavaliers.

Jacob Cofie, the rising four-star forward from Eastside Catholic, confirmed Sunday on social media that he would sign with the Cavaliers as part of their 2024 recruiting class.

The news was first reported by Joe Tipton of On3 Sports.

Cofie received an offer from Virginia in July - right before he jumped up in the national ranking (now No. 61 by ESPN.com) after a strong "Peach Jam" showing with the top team from Seattle-based Rotary.

Last month, the 6-foot-9 standout trimmed his list to four finalists - Ohio State, USC, Virginia and Washington.

As a junior, Cofie averaged 18.7 points and 11.4 rebounds in leading Eastside Catholic to a sixth-place finish at the WIAA Class 3A championships in Tacoma.

Cofie was selected to SBLive WA's all-state second team.

This isn't the first time Virginia has dipped into the region. Chelan's Joe Harris was part of the Cavaliers' 2010 recruiting class, and is now in the NBA with the New Jersey Nets.

Last year, Idaho state player of the year Blake Buchanan, of Lake City, signed with the Cavaliers.
