Max Williamson breaks 2 national swim records at Texas (UIL) state meet

Williamson's 200 IM, 100 freestyle marks are among 4 national records set by 6A boys state champion Keller

Max Williamson, one of the nation's top amateur swimmers, broke two national records as he led Keller (Texas) to a UIL Class 6A Texas high school state championship on Saturday.

The junior's 1:40.81 in the 200-yard individual medley at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin broke a 12-year national record (1:41.39) held by David Nolan of Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Williamson, who was named the UIL Swimmer of the Meet, hit a 41.84 lead-off split in a Keller's national record-setting boys 400-yard freestyle relay — a 2:53.80 time that also netted them a 6A title.

That unseated the 2:53.81 record set by North Allegheny (Pennsylvania) in 2018, and Williamson's 100-yard split overtook Kaii Winkler's national record 42.14 set in November.

The historically low times helped Keller secure the UIL Class 6A team championship. Its 312.5 points beat second place Southlake Carroll (208) and third place Conroe The Woodlands (191)

Williamson also set a 6A record with a boys 100 backstroke of 46.29.

Williamson, who is committed to Virginia, has made a name for himself in the sport at a young age. His 200 IM and 400 IM times have drawn comparisons to a teenage Michael Phelps.
