Texas high school state wrestling news, notes: Allen wins fourth straight girls title
The Texas high school wrestling championships took place over two action-packed days at the Berry Center in Cypress, Texas and champions were crowned for Class 5A and 6A boys and girls on Saturday.
The Allen boys fell short of a state championship for the first time in 14 years as Arlington Martin claimed the 6A boys title, but the Allen girls won for a fourth straight year.
Amarillo Tascosa edged out Lucas Lovejoy by three points to win the 5A boys title and Lubbock Cooper ran away with the 5A girls title.

Allen girls win 4th straight title

While Allen didn’t maintain its crown in 6A boys, the girls won its fourth straight championship with 123 points. That was one point less than the next two trophy teams had combined.
The Lady Eagles had championships from Grace Romans (107), Kailin Sebert (120) and Jasmine Robinson (165).
The latter finished her career with only one loss in high school — a 133-1 mark and four straight championships.
She is only the fourth UIL wrestler to win four straight titles when the sport became recognized in the 1998-1999 school year.
Robinson finished the year 43-0 and pinned all four of her foes at state.
Add in the four team titles as well, Robinson completed a perfect sweep of her high school career.
The west owns Class 5A

Of the six trophies that were given out to the top three teams in the standings, the west Texas area got half of them on 5A.
The Lubbock Cooper won the girls title with 99 1/2 points, a comfortable margin over Azle’s 70 points. Taylin Silco repeated as a state champion for the Lady Pirates.
This was Cooper’s first state tile, while Azle was seeking it first title since 2013. The Lady Hornets had three in the finals — including sisters Alicen and Mariah Dillard — and Mariah took first.
Since the 1998-99 season, Cooper is the 16th team from west Texas to win a title.
On the boys side, Canyon Randall won the title with 109 points, holding off challenges from Melissa and Amarillo Tascoca.
The title is the first for the Raiders since winning three in a row from 2019-2021.
Randall has three in the finals and one champion — nationally-ranked Mikey Ruiz, who won the 113-pound title.

After day one, we listed 15 Class 5A wrestlers and 12 Class 6 wrestlers — combined between boys and girls — who were seeking a perfect season with a state championship.
Saturday turned into a mixed bag for some of those wrestlers. Two of the semifinal matches out of the gate pitted two undefeated foes, so at most there would’ve been no more than 25 undefeated state champions.
There were a few upsets along the way and some defending state championships were upset early Saturday.
