Cobey Sellers trims list; Bluechip cornerback down to 6

Shadow Creek (Texas) four-star cornerback Cobey Sellers is down to a final six

Shadow Creek (Texas) four-star cornerback Cobey Sellers is one of the top defensive backs in the state of Texas.

The 6-foot, 175-pound class of 2025 cornerback has already accumulated more than 20 scholarship offers

But rather than continuing to build that list, Sellers took a big step forward trimming it down Saturday.

This weekend, the dynamic defender announced a top six of Georgia, LSU, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and Texas A&M:

Sellers is rated the nation's No. 124 overall prospect and No. 17 cornerback.

Both 247Sports and On3 consider the Sooners the team-to-beat for the Texas product, but a recent Junior Day visit to Oregon catapulted the Ducks into a dark horse contender.

"Oregon was more impressive than I thought it would be," he said. "The facilities were unbelievable, and how they take care of their athletes on and off field got my attention. I also got to see how they thought I could be a factor at cornerback (with) the way they play defense."

But that wasn't all that stood out.

"Another important thing was they explained to my parents is how Oregon makes sure that the parents can come to any home or away game. After meeting coach (Dan) Lanning in person... he's the type of coach I'd like to play for."

Still, Oklahoma has a strong relationship with Sellers that dates back to the beginning of his recruitment,

"(Oklahoma) was my fourth offer, which seems like a long time ago," Sellers said. "The coaches now have a great relationship with my parents at this point. At O-U, it seems as if I'm being recruited by the entire defensive staff, so I know I'm a priority to them."

That effort has extended to his parents as well.

"My parent's have a great relationship with Coach (Brent) Venables, and they stay in consistent contact with each other," Sellers said. "That's huge for my parents because their opinion will be a factor in what is the best fit for me come decision time."
