Texas high school football realignment: UIL set to announce districts for 2024-26

New districts to be unveiled on social media Thursday at 9 a.m.

Realignment is coming to Texas high school football, basketball and volleyball.

On Thursday, the UIL is set to announce new districts for the next two school years (2024-26) at 9 a.m. Central time across its social media platforms.

NEW UIL DISTRICTS: CLASS 6A | CLASS 5A | CLASS 4A | CLASS 3A

Districts are realigned every two years based on updated school enrollment. The UIL released its enrollment figures for the upcoming cycle in late October on what it calls Snapshot Day, and those numbers determined enrollment cutoffs for each conference, which were announced in December.

Schools can push to opt up in order to compete among larger schools.

DeSoto, two-time defending 6A Division II football champ, has not made a decision whether it will opt up or not after it was designated to drop to 5A Division I school after reporting 2,127 students on Snapshot Day (Class 5A range is 1,315-2,274).

Allen (6,947 students), Plano East (5,346), Plano West (5,337.5) and Conroe (5,282) have the state's largest enrollment, while Welch Dawson (32 students) has the lowest enrollment, followed by Mount Calm (38), Lazbuddie (39) and Blanket (43).

fDeSoto's Daylon Singleton, a four-star junior wide receiver, races toward the endzone during a 6A Division II state championship performance in December. Realignment might change where UIL goes.

Find what each classification looks like at the full UIL enrollment list here. Enrollment numbers are as of Oct. 27, 2023. Class 6A must consist of 220-250 schools that play football, not including those that choose to opt up to 6A.

Districts for other UIL sports will be released at a date that hasn't been released yet.
