Gage Goldberg, son of WWE star, commits to Colorado football, Deion Sanders
Boerne Champion (Texas) middle linebacker Gage Goldberg announced his commitment to the Colorado Buffaloes on Monday morning.
Goldberg, the son of WWE wrestler Bill Goldberg, was a first team all-District 12-5A linebacker for Boerne-Champion, which went 8-3 and reached the UIL 5A Division I bi-district round.
Goldberg is the son of Bill Goldberg, who is perhaps better known by his stage name Goldberg. He will walk on at Colorado after receiving another preferred walk-on offer from Alabama.
"We were seconds away from committing to Alabama," Gage Goldberg told TMZ Sports. "Then Nick Saban left ..."
Alabama, Duke, Central Florida and NC State were in his top four. But after Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban retired on Jan. 10, Bill Goldberg put in a call to Deion Sanders at Colorado.
The elder Goldberg was a teammate of Sanders' on the Atlanta Falcons in 1992.
Before his pro wrestling career, Bill Goldberg played for Georgia in the late 1980s, was an 11th round NFL Draft pick in 1990 and played for three teams in five years, as well as a two-year stint with the Canadian Football League.
"We were already looking at property in Tuscaloosa," Bill Goldberg said.
Gage Goldberg, who is also a standout catcher who was named to the UIL Class 5A all-state tournament team after helping Boerne-Champion reach the Class 5A semifinals.
Six 2024 prospects have signed letters of intent to the Buffaloes, the nation's No. 21 rated recruiting class, but Colorado has also landed 21 transfers and has the nation's No. 4 transfer class, according to 247 Sports.
