Look: Gilmer defeats Bellville to claim Texas UIL 4A state football championship
ARLINGTON, TEXAS — Quarterback Cadon Tennison accounted for three touchdowns to lead Gilmer past Bellville 28-26 on Friday afternoon in the Texas (UIL) 4A Division 2 state football championship game at AT&T Stadium.
Tennison threw for two touchdowns and scored on a 2-yard run in the first quarter to give the Buckeyes a 14-7 lead and they never trailed from that point. Tennison completed 17-of-27 passes for a game-high 197 yards.
Will Henderson had a game-high 227 yards rushing on 27 carries and scored on a 65-yard run in the second quarter for Gilmer.
Sam Hranicky led Bellville (15-1) with 157 yards rushing and he scored two touchdowns on runs of 66 and 58 yards.
It marked the Buckeyes (13-3) first state football title since 2014.
