Kobe Black commits to Texas Longhorns football

Nation's No. 2 corner, second best uncommitted prospect chooses Texas over LSU, Texas A&M, Oregon and Oklahoma State

Kobe Black committed to the Texas Longhorn on Wednesday afternoon. The 4-star corner gave his verbal pledge to coach Steve Sarkisian and staff, becoming the 21st commit in Texas' 2024 class.

Black's announcement takes one of the top remaining uncommitted high school football prospects in the class of 2024 is coming off the board on Wednesday. 

The Connally (Texas) 4-star cornerback also considered Oklahoma State, LSU, Texas A&M and Oregon. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound defensive back's decision ceremony, first planned for Nov. 27 then postponed, was streamed live on his Instagram account (@iamkobeblack_) and on Dave Campbell's Texas Football's YouTube page.

In August, Black, the nation's No. 2 corner and No. 5 prospect in Texas (Rivals), announced he'd narrowed his list to five schools: LSU, Oregon, Ohio State, Texas and Texas A&M.

On3's recruiting prediction machine points toward Texas with 95% certainty and three 247 Sports recruiting reporters have predicted Texas.

Black would be the fourth corner to join Texas' 2024 class, which 247 Sports lists as No. 11 in the nation. reportedly took an official visit to Texas A&M and visited Texas for the Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl in early October.

He's the second-highest rated uncommitted prospect in the class of 2024 behind Burley (Idaho) 4-star Gatlin Bair. Like Bair, he's also a standout sprinter and plays basketball at Connally.

Bair, the No. 36 prospect in the nation per 247 Sports, has yet to make a pick after decommitting from Boise State in the wake of coach Andy Avalos' firing. 

The Texas staff appeared on the sidelines of a UIL state semifinal on Saturday as DeSoto beat Southlake Carroll. The Longhorns play Washington in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff on Jan. 1.
