The regional semifinal round of the 2023 Texas high school football playoffs is officially in the books.

Each week throughout the season, SBLive is taking a look at the top high school football performers across the Lone Star State. We gathered the best of the best, separated offense from defense, and now it’s your turn to cast your vote on a winner.

TEXAS DEFENSIVE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL NOMINEES

Hudson Butchee, so., Stephenville

Butchee was everywhere in Stephenville’s 7-3 win over Celina, recording 23 tackles and a forced fumble.

Kameron Cummings, sr., Atascocita

Cummings had a fumble return touchdown in a 34-14 victory over Lamar.

Luke Edgecomb, sr., St. Thomas

Edgecomb picked off a pass in the end zone and raced 102 yards for a touchdown in St. Thomas’ marathon 73-62 win over Plano Prestonwood.

Connor Gaines, sr., Bellville

Gaines returned an interception 52 yards for a touchdown in a 61-7 rout of Silsbee.

Davis Lee, jr., Lake Creek

Lee recovered two fumbles — including a 38-yard return to the end zone — in Lake Creek’s 30-27 loss to Port Neches-Groves.

Cartier Nealy, sr., Little River Academy

Nealy had nine tackles and forced a pair of fumbles as Little River Academy fell to Franklin, 52-27.

Jakharyn Parks, sr., Jasper

Parks picked off two passes in Jasper’s 28-7 victory over Cuero.

Jadon Porter, sr., Lorena

Porter, a Baylor commit, had eight tackles and an interception in a 42-21 win over Columbus.

Kameron Reddic, sr., Hightower

Reddic had 10 tackles, a sack and a blocked punt in Hightower’s 31-28 victory over C.E. King.

Doc Renberg, sr., Malakoff

Renberg piled up 10 tackles in a 42-7 rout of Grandview.

Kenneth Scott III, so., Huntsville

Scott III’s late interception set up Huntsville’s go-ahead touchdown in a 14-13 win over Randle.
