Throughout the year, SBLive takes a look at the top high school athletes across the Lone Star State each week, gathering the top performers and putting the best of the best up for reader vote.
We're splitting our Athlete of the Week process up in order to spotlight more of the scores of tremendous performances across Texas at the beginning of each week across every sport except football (which has its own statewide offensive and defensive football player of the week polls).

Congratulations to Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis cross country standout Angel Sanchez, who ran away with the vote in last week's SBLive Athlete of the Week poll after winning the UIL Class 4A title by eight seconds.

SBLIVE TEXAS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK CANDIDATES
Ayden Ames, Prosper volleyball
The recent Texas signee helped send the Eagles to the Class 6A final four with a 3-0 win over Flower Mound on Saturday. She had 16 kills and 5 blocks, earning regional tournament MVP honors.
Gentry Barker, Lucas Lovejoys volleyball
The freshman had 13 kills and 19 digs as the Leopards beat Frisco Wakeland to advance to the Class 5A semifinals.
Heather Baymon, Houston Langham Creek girls basketball
In 6 games last week, the senior guard had scored 32 twice – in 63-35 win versus Fort Bend Dulles and against Austin. She also hit all 36 free-throw attempts last week.
Aaliyah Chavez, Lubbock Monterrey girls basketball
In a pair of wins last week, she tallied 42 against Lubbock Estacado and followed up with 44 in a 72-65 win against Amarillo Tascosa on Saturday.
Caitlynn Clark, El Paso Franklin girls basketball
The Cougars rallied for a 79-74 win over Hanks on Tuesday behind 33 points from Clark. The UT-Permian Basin signee had 15 points in the fourth quarter.
Sion Cleveland, Houston Lutheran North boys basketball
The 5-foot-10 guard had 29 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 9 steals in a 94-23 win against Yes Prep Northwest on Thursday.
Suli Davis, Colleyville Heritage volleyball
The junior, and BYU pledge, had 17 kills, 17 assists, 5 digs and 4 aces in a 3-0 sweep against Argyle in Lubbock on Saturday.
Baker Day, Houston St. Thomas Catholic boys soccer
The sophomore had three goals in a win against The Woodlands Cooper on Tuesday and followed up with two goals in a win against Houston British on Thursday.
Abraham Fajardo, Houston St. Pius X boys soccer
In the season-opener, he had a hat trick in a 7-0 win over Houston Second Baptist on Tuesday.
Rian Forestier, San Antonio Brandeis girls basketball
The 6-foot senior and USC signee had at least 17 points in 5 games last week and dropped in 30 in an 88-61 loss to Fort Worth Boswell on Friday.
Jazmine Hansley, Dickinson girls basketball
The junior had 29 points while adding 6 steals and 4 assists in a 53-49 win against Tomball Memorial on Tuesday.
Olivia Herron, Celina volleyball
The Bobcats are going to the Class 4A final four after a 3-1 win against Aubrey on Saturday. The freshman had a team-high 16 kills – six coming in the final set.
S’Liyah Johnson, Hitchcock girls basketball
The sophomore guard scored 18 of her 30 points in the third quarter to help the No. 8-ranked Lady Bulldogs beat Santa Fe 63-38.
Jaylen Lawal, iSchool of Lewisville STEM Academy boys basketball
In two games last week, he had a combined 39 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and six steals for the Cougars in two wins.
Gabrielle Martinez, Katy Cinco Ranch volleyball
The 5-foot-11 outside hitter had 18 kills and 19 digs to help the Cougars beat Katy Seven Lakes in four sets and move onto the Class 6A final four.
Carlos Mendoza, Laredo St. Augustine boys basketball
The junior hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Knights a 70-68 win over Laredo LBJ on Friday.
Zenaida Murillo, Canyon West Plains volleyball
The Lady Wolves secured a 3-1 win over Hereford on Tuesday night to advance to the regional semifinals for the first time. Murillo had 19 assists and 24 digs in the win.
Ben Price, Dallas W. T. White boys basketball
In a season-opening win, 68-42 over Life Waxahachie, the Longhorns got 20 points from the 6-foot-6 senior on Friday.
Jordan Sapien, El Paso Pebble Hills girls basketball
The junior had 25 points as the Spartans picked up a 58-50 win over El Paso Burges on Tuesday. She followed up with 23 points in a 71-38 win over El Paso Chapin on Tuesday.
Kenzie Sims, Bushland volleyball
The Lady Falcons are headed to the Class 3A tournament for the fifth year in a row. Sims had 45 assists, 10 kills and 20 digs in the two regional games.
Sidney Soria, Canyon Randall volleyball
The Lady Raiders are moving onto the state 4A finals and she was named the regional tournament MVP with 48 assists and 17 digs in two matches.
Kalyn Toussaint, Galveston Ball girls basketball
In four games last week, she scored 105 points and tallied 35 points in the season-opening game – a 60-40 win over Houston Eisenhower on Nov. 7.
Bailey Warren, Fulshear volleyball
The Chargers beat Barbers Hill 3-0 in the Class 5A Region III finals on Saturday. The Purdue pledge had 22 kills in the win.
Delaney Wright, Montgomery volleyball
The freshman had 22 kills, 9 service points, 3 blocks and 10 digs in a 3-1 win against Brenham on Oct. 17.
