Texas high school football top stars, best performances of Week 9

Who had the best individual performance between October 19-21?

Week 9 of the Texas high school football season is in the books.

District title races are heating up and the Lone Star State is now racing toward the two biggest games of the regular season.

Before both No. 1 Duncanville and No. 2 DeSoto face off in the Texas game of the year, and No. 3 North Shore plays No. 7 Atascocita in a strong runner-up in Houston, let's take a look at the top performances in the state over the weekend.

Here are the individual performances that rose above the rest in Week 9:

TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TOP PERFORMERS (WEEK 9)

Marvin Duffey, running back, sr.

High school: Westlake

Bartlett had 15 carries for 150 yards and three touchdowns as Westlake routed Austin, 65-14.

Aaden Benjamin, cornerback, sr.

High school: Shadow Creek

In double-overtime, Benjamin returned a two-point conversion pass 101 yards to the end zone, lifting Shadow Creek to a walk-off 25-23 win over Dawson.

Ty Ty Byars, running back/athlete, jr

High school: Lake Creek

Byars turned 36 carries into 183 yards and three touchdowns in a 27-20 win over Huntsville.

Gerard Culotta, linebacker, jr.

High school: Lake Creek

Culotta recorded 12 tackles and a sack in Lake Creek’s 27-20 win over Huntsville.

Brayden Daniel, linebacker, soph.

High school: Hutto

Daniel compiled eight total tackles, one sack and three quarterback hurries in Hutto’s 38-33 win over Copperas Cove.

Edgar DeLuna, running back, sr.

High school: Sonora

DeLuna had 15 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery in a 60-26 rout of Anthony. The senior also piled up 243 yards of total offense and five touchdowns.

Marvin Duffey, running back, sr.

High school: DeSoto

Duffey ran for 177 yards and three touchdowns in DeSoto’s 35-13 rivalry victory over Cedar Hill.

Joseph Foster, linebacker, jr.

High school: Timberview

Foster had a pick-six and returned a blocked kick for a touchdown as Timberview blanked Sunset, 90-0.

Kody Fuentes, quarterback, sr.

High school: Barbers Hill

Fuentes fired six touchdown passes as Barbers Hill blew past Kingwood Park, 56-14.

Alex Green, wide receiver, sr.

High school: Hutto

Green had another big game in a 38-33 win over Copperas Cove, catching 13 passes for 184 yards and a touchdown.

Edward Griffin, quarterback, jr.

High school: Coppell

Griffin threw for 273 yards and four touchdowns as Coppell shut out Hebron, 49-0.

Damien Johnson, athlete, sr.

High school: Midland Legacy

Johnson had 27 carries for 184 yards and five touchdowns as Midland Legacy routed San Angelo Central, 66-24.

Payton Luther, safety, jr.

High school: Westlake

Luther returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown in Westlake’s 65-14 trouncing of Austin. It was one of two pick-sixes for the Chaparrals.

Rolando Martinez, running back/free safety, jr.

High school: Abernathy

Martinez had a big game on both sides of the ball for Abernathy. The junior intercepted a pair of passes on defense and ran for 260 yards and five touchdowns in a 48-0 shutout of Littlefield.

Trey Morris, running back, sr.

High school: Cypress Falls

Morris, an Army commit, carried it 36 times for 188 yards and a pair of touchdowns — including the game-winner with 32 seconds remaining — as Cypress Falls took down previously unbeaten Cypress Springs, 32-28.

Aydan Martinez-Brown, running back, jr.

High school: College Station

Martinez-Brown ran for 173 yards and five touchdowns in a 63-21 thrashing of Georgetown.

Braeden Mussett, athlete, jr.

High school: Ryan

Mussett had 19 carries for 156 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Ryan nearly upset Aledo. The Bearcats held on for a 25-19 victory.

Kahlil Smith, linebacker, sr.

High school: Reedy

Smith had three tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in a 45-3 win over Frisco.

Brandon Thomas, running back, jr.

High school: Episcopal

Thomas ran for 285 yards on 35 carries and scored five touchdowns — including the game-winner late in the fourth quarter — as Episcopal downed Kirkland, 42-35.

Zina Umeozulu, defensive end, sr.

High school: Guyer

Jayden Collins wasn’t the only defensive standout for Guyer as Umeozulu, a four-star Texas commit, recorded three sacks in the victory over Allen.

Michael Wilson, running back, sr.

High school: Klein Collins

Wilson, a Central Arkansas commit, ran for 152 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-33 win over Klein Cain.
