Aledo thumps Justin Northwest at home to stay perfect

TCU commit Hauss Hejny accounts for 2 TDs in Texas high school football showdown

ALEDO, TEXAS - Exactly one year ago Friday, Aledo eluded an 0-3 start to the season with a win against Justin Northwest.

The Bearcats haven't looked back since.

They extended their current win streak to 17 straight games Friday night as senior quarterback Hauss Hejny passed for one touchdown and threw for another as Aledo defeated Justin Northwest again, this time 38-13 at Bearcat Stadium in the District 3-5A Division I opener for both squads.

Last season, the Bearcats dropped their first two games before defeating the Texans, 49-20. That started a run of 14 straight wins the rest of the way, culminating with a 52-14 win against College Station for the Class 5A Division I state championship.

Aledo, the ranked No. 5 in the SBLive Texas Power 25, then took a 2-0 record into Friday's game and added to the win column.

The Bearcats (3-0, 1-0) scored on each of their first two possessions to take a 10-0 lead. Junior placekicker Cole Crawford commenced the scoring with a 32-yard field goal midway through the first quarter; then Hejny took a keeper 13 yards into the end zone with seconds to go in the first, capping a nine-play 61-yard drive.

Northwest (2-1, 0-1) finally got on the board on the ensuing possession, moving 62 yards in 11 plays. Tailback Nate Jean plunged in from a yard out, but the Texans missed the PAT, keeping Aledo in front, 10-6.

The Bearcats extended their lead to 17-6 on a 46-yard TD strike from Hejny to senior tight end Tyson Timms with 3:55 left in the first half. That was set up by an interception from senior safety Boogie Owens.

Aledo made it 24-6 after taking the second-half kickoff and running a 10-play drive. Sophomore tailback Raycine Guillory went in from a yard out to finish things off.

Moments later, the Bearcats forced a fumble, and Owens grabbed it on the run and raced in untouched from 52 yards out as Aledo stayed in command, 31-6.

Northwest got its final TD early in the fourth quarter as senior tailback Ife Durodoye broke loose, covering 56 yards. The Texans got the ball back and had a fourth down near midfield, but a pass was tipped by Aledo sophomore Cooper Cyphers, who then grabbed the ball and raced 49 yards for another defensive TD by the Bearcats with 6:40 remaining.
