McKinney (Texas) football coach Marcus Shavers not on the sideline last week; return is uncertain
McKinney (Texas) head football coach Marcus Shavers was not on the sideline when his team won its second game to start the season.
At the moment, it is uncertain when Shavers will return to the sideline for the Lions.
In a report by The Dallas Morning News, a video surfaced last week on social media that featured Shavers in the process of handrolling a cigarette, though what was inside the cigarette was never disclosed. The video was posted by Taryn Parker, who had served as the head volleyball coach at Lake Highlands and was previously an assistant at McKinney Boyd.
Both Shavers and Parker deleted their respective accounts on X after the video was made public.
McKinney Independent School District athletic director Jennifer Frazier told The Dallas Morning News that a coach was placed on paid administrative leave pending further information, but declined to specify if Shavers was the coach in question.
Shavers coached the Lions in their season opener Aug. 24, a rousing come-from-behind 23-21 win against Longview. He did not coach last week, when McKinney improved to 2-0 with a 35-14 win against Richardson Berkner.
Shavers came to McKinney prior to the 2018 season after having served as head coach at Lubbock Estacado. He went 29-27 over his first five seasons, and last season, the Lions reached the third round of the playoffs, finishing 8-5.
McKinney will face Flower Mound this Friday.
