Texas high school football Week 2 is officially in the books.

Each week throughout the season, SBLive is taking a look at the top high school football performers across the Lone Star State. We gathered the best of the best, separated offense from defense and now it's your turn to cast your vote on a winner.

Here are SBLive's Texas Defensive Football Player of the Week nominees for August 28-September 3. Scroll down to read about this week's list and cast your vote in the poll below. Voting remains open until Sunday, September 10, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. Central time.

TEXAS DEFENSIVE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL NOMINEES

Cody Adkinson, so., Center

Adkinson compiled 23 tackles in a 66-20 victory over Spring Hill.

Brian Bacon, sr., Weiss

Bacon piled up eight total tackles, 3.5 sacks and two quarterback hurries in a 44-19 win over Austin LBJ.

Jonah Brown, sr., Silsbee

Brown intercepted two passes in the first half as Silsbee routed Hargrave, 41-14. His teammate, K’leb Gaines, had a pick-six during the win.

Kennard Davis, sr., Wilmer-Hutchins

Davis had a pair of sacks in a 33-28 victory over Southwest. The senior has five total sacks through two games this season.

Korbin Emro, sr., Burkburnett

Emro caused a pair of fumbles and had five total tackles in a 19-16 loss to Krum.

Jacob Flores, sr., Tivy

Flores had seven tackles, a sack and six quarterback hurries in a 28-10 win over Davenport.

Juan Gomez, sr., Parkland

Gomez was a force in Parkland’s 42-10 victory over Austin, compiling 19 tackles (four for loss), a sack, two quarterback hurries and a forced fumble.

Seth Gutierrez, so., Beeville

Gutierrez returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown as Beeville defeated Orange Grove, 41-33. Gutierrez’s return broke a scoreless tie that ultimately turned into a shootout.

Marquel Hambric, sr., Terrell

Hambric, a Central Arkansas commit, had two interceptions, four pass breakups and scored a pair of touchdowns in a 41-24 victory over Sunnyvale.

Collin Hays, sr., Holliday

Hays notched 17 tackles in a 40-22 loss to Jim Ned.

Jake Lindsey, sr., Benbrook

Lindsey had a rare walk-off interception in overtime as Benbrook took down Iowa Park, 34-28.

Dustan Mark, sr., Southlake Carroll

Mark had three sacks and scored a touchdown off a fumble recovery as Southlake Carroll cruised past Flower Mound Marcus, 57-15.

Abdon Mata, sr., Steele

Mata piled up 13 tackles, 1.5 sacks and five quarterback hurries in a 20-10 loss to Lake Travis.

Ja’Tyrian Moore, sr., Tenaha

Moore had four tackles, an interception, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup in a 35-14 win over San Augustine. The senior also caught five passes for 59 yards.

Alex Olivarez, sr., Tuloso-Midway

Olivarez recorded three sacks, a quarterback hurry and eight total tackles in a 36-9 win over Ray.

Ethan Tesoroni, sr., Savio

Tesoroni had three sacks, three quarterback hurries and nine total tackles in a 31-20 victory over Hyde Park.
