North Shore (1-0)

The Mustangs lost star QB Kaleb Bailey to a torn ACL in late September last year, but still managed to advance to the Class 6A DI title game where they lost 28-21 to Duncanville (currently ranked No. 6 nationally).

Bailey, who took over as starter midway through his freshman season to lead the team to the 2021 state championship, now appears ready to return under center for new coach Willie Gaston, and he will have plenty of offensive weapons to work with.

Junior wideout Deion Deblanc is now eligible after his transfer from Eisenhower (Aldine) and will join seniors Christopher Barnes (WR, North Texas commit) and Kaleb Thomas (TE, University of Houston commit) on the Mustangs' high-powered offense.

North Shore will look to junior CB Devin Sanchez, the No. 8 overall prospect in 247Sports’ class of 2025 rankings, to anchor its defense.

Spring (0-1)

The Lions took a 14-0 lead into halftime last week against Fort Bend Travis but were outscored 26-9 in the final two quarters, losing their season opener by a field goal.

Things won't get any easier for Spring this week as they hit the road to take on the Mustangs.

North Shore dominated the Lions when the two met last year, cruising to a 42-0 victory.
