South Carolina girls basketball state playoffs: Military Magnet off to a huge start in search of four-peat

Military Magnet is seeking its fourth straight SCHSL Class 1-A state championship and the Eagles are off to a huge start.

DaNiriyah Williams led six players with 21 points as the Eagles overwhelmed Johnsonville, 109-11, in the first round. Sabri Mitchell scored 18 points while Dejamari Pugh had 17, Dream Watson 14, Lauren Willis 12 and Zanyiah Sanders-Smith 11.

All five classifications held first-round playoff games. Here is a look at what happened.

5-A

· Jenna Cothran’s layup at the buzzer lifted Dorman to a 55-54 win over Lexington. The Cavaliers got the game-winner right after Lexington had erased a 13-point deficit. Izzy Saville had a game-high 18 points for the Wildcats.

· Dutch Fork routed Cane Bay 77-18 as Michaela Fairwell scored 22 points and Antoinet Cheeseboro had 12.

· Undefeated Sumter had a bye.
