We have seven athletes nominated this week for SBLive’s Lower State South Carolina Defensive Football Player of the Week from Nov. 16-17 and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced next week.

Here are this week’s nominations:

Ray Middleton, Summerville

The 6-foot-4, 315-pound nose tackle helped clog the middle on three failed fourth down conversion attempts by Carolina Forest.

Jamie Downing, Bamberg-Ehrhardt

Downing had an interception in the Red Raiders’ 41-6 victory over Cross in the 1-A state playoffs.

Preston Springs, Hammond

Springs had a key fumble recovery as the Skyhawks rallied for a 28-21 win over Laurence Manning Academy in the SCISA 4-A state championship game.

Jah Mayrant, Camden

The two-way star had a crucial interception to snuff a Gilbert drive as the Bulldogs rallied for a 35-28 win in the 3-A state playoffs.

T.J. Smith, White Knoll

Smith returned an interception 62 yards for a touchdown and made a pair of tackles in Timberwolves’ 35-7 rout of Summerville in the 5-A state playoffs.

Arlando Chaney, Bethesda Academy

The 6-foot, 375-pound nose tackle had an interception as the Blazers edged Williamsburg Academy 18-17 in the SCISA 2-A state championship game.

Amare Reaves, South Florence

Reaves returned a fumble 70 yards for a touchdown in the undefeated Bruins’ 42-22 win over Lancaster in the 4-A state playoffs.
