Here are the candidates for SBLive’s South Carolina High School Athlete of the Week for Oct. 22-28 as nominated by fans, readers and SBLive’s staff. Read through the nominees and cast your vote. Here are this week's nominees:
Peyton O’Brien, Daniel, Girls Golf
O’Brien won the 3-A state championship in a sudden death playoff. The six-year starter needed a birdie on the final to force a playoff, which she won on the first hole. O’Brien shot rounds of 77 and 74.
Coleman Gray, Chapman, Football
The Panthers’ quarterback ran 17 times for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns in a 38-35 win over Broome that clinched the program’s seventh straight region title. Gray was also 12-of-13 for 112 yards through the air.
Andrew Stephens, Byrnes, Football
Stephens was 13-of-22 for 243 yards and 2 touchdowns in the Rebels’ 33-21 win over Gaffney.
Jared Holmes, Brookland-Cayce, Football
The Bearcats’ defensive lineman came up with a game-changing interception. Holmes’ big play led to the go-ahead touchdown as Brookland-Cayce beat previously undefeated Gilbert 28-21 to claim the region championship.
Claire Green, May River, Girls Golf
The junior standout shot rounds of 70 and 71 to win the 4-A state championship by 11 strokes. Green also helped May River win the team championship.
Christopher Livingston, Carolina Forest, Football
The junior tailback filled in for an ill starter and did quite well for himself. Livingston ran 23 times for 218 yards and a touchdown in the Panthers’ 35-14 win over St. James. The touchdown was a 92-yard jaunt that broke a 14-14 tie in the third quarter.
Yannick Smith, Summerville, Football
The East Carolina commit did it all for the undefeated Green Wave in their 48-28 romp over Fort Dorchester. Smith had a 39-yard touchdown run, over 100 yards receiving and two interceptions.
Olivia Borgman, North Myrtle Beach, Girls Volleyball
Borgman, a junior outside hitter who has committed to Georgia, pounded 13 kills and had 18 digs in the top-ranked Chiefs swept James Island 3-0 in the third round of the state playoffs.
A.J. Brand, Irmo, Football
Brand is having close to a perfect season for the undefeated Yellow Jackets. In a 49-0 win over Lugoff-Elgin, the Irmo quarterback was 18-of-23 for 279 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also ran for 61 yards and a touchdown. Brand has 33 touchdown passes without an interception for the season.
Tymir Chism, Orangeburg-Wilkinson, Football
The senior running back had 217 yards rushing and a touchdown as the Bruins blanked Swansea 34-0 to clinch a 3-A state playoff bid.
