Voting will conclude on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week’s poll.

Lower State South Carolina Defensive Player of the Week

Congratulations to last week's winner: Kayden Gaddist of Summerville.

Here are this week's nominations:

J.T. Williams, Summerville

Williams returned a fumble for a touchdown as the 5-A top-ranked Green Wave overwhelmed Stall 69-0.

Amare Haynes, Calhoun County

Haynes turned in one of the most dominant defensive efforts of the season Friday night in a 28-14 win over Denmark-Olar. The senior linebacker had 11 tackles, including 2 for loss, 2 sacks and 5 forced fumbles.

Darren Bryant, Lake Marion

Bryant had 11 tackles, including one for loss, a sack and a forced fumble as Lake Marion beat Bishop England 13-3.

Nick Gordon, Cheraw

Gordon was a playmaker Friday night. The 5-foot-8, 140-pound freshman returned two interceptions for touchdowns in the Braves’ 63-13 rout of Central.

J.J. Chadick, Carolina Forest

A kicker doesn’t play defense but he can be a defensive weapon. Chadick boomed seven touchbacks, forcing Conway to start from its 20 on almost every possession. That was a pivotal factor in the Panthers’ 49-17 win.

Micah Balder, Williamsburg Academy

The sophomore strong safety had an interception and three tackles as the Stallions toppled Beaufort Academy 26-13.

Brayden Berry, Berkeley

Berry led the way with 10 tackles as the Stags ran away with a 52-10 win over Wando.
