We have seven athletes nominated this week for SBLive’s Lower State South Carolina Defensive Football Player of the Week from Sept. 28-29 and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week’s poll.


Lower State South Carolina Defensive Player of the Week

Here are this week's nominations:

Jaidan Deweese, Goose Creek

Deweese grabbed two interceptions to lead the defense as Goose Creek opened region play with a dominating 42-7 win over Berkeley.

David Wigfall, Cross

Wigfall had two interceptions, returning one of them for a touchdown in the Trojans’ 56-0 win over 56-0 rout of St. John’s. The junior linebacker also had six tackles and a sack.

Chase Anderson, Porter-Gaud

Anderson had 2 interceptions and made 8 tackles as the Cyclones outscored Trinity Collegiate 58-30.

Keryien Brown, Dillon

The sophomore linebacker returned an interception for a touchdown as the Lions downed Loris 33-14.

Austin Johnson, Florence Christian

Johnson had an interception, fumble recovery and four tackles in the Eagles’ 45-13 thumping of Hilton Head Prep.

Kayden Gaddist, Summerville

Gaddis, a senior linebacker/end, made 14 tackles in the 5-A top-ranked Green Wave’s 44-21 win over Stratford.

Tramaine Hunter, Conway

The sophomore safety returned a fumble 38 yards for a touchdown in the Tigers’ 27-22 win over St. James.
