We have seven athletes nominated this week for SBLive’s Lower State South Carolina defensive football player of the week from Sept. 21-22 and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Saturday, September 30th at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week’s poll.

Here are this week's nominations.

Julius Brown, Summerville

Brown led the Green Wave defense with 8 tackles and 2 sacks as the state’s top-ranked 5-A team beat Goose Creek 40-20.

Anrhei McMillan, Stratford

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound senior linebacker had 8 tackles, including 3 for loss, 2 forced fumbles and a blocked punt as the Knights swamped St. James 53-6 for their first victory of the 2023 season.

Kayden Holden, Aynor

It goes down on the stat sheet as a forced fumble. And it was big. Holden stripped a Conway runner of the ball right before the goal line and a teammate made the recovery in the end zone to preserve a 22-18 win.

Isiah Washington, Hunter-Kinard-Tyler

Washington made 8 tackles, including 3 for loss, in the Trojans’ 30-16 victory over Hunter-Kinard-Tyler.

Jonathan Howard, Fort Dorchester

Howard had an interception to set up a touchdown, though the Patriots lost 48-40 to Gaffney.

Garrett Still, South Aiken

Still led his team with seven tackles as the Thoroughbreds upset Clinton 41-30 for their first win of the season.

Charlie McCutcheon, Orangeburg Prep

McCutcheon had an interception to stop a scoring drive in the Indians’ 28-0 victory over Calhoun Academy.
