We have seven athletes nominated this week for SBLive’s Lower State South Carolina Defensive Football Player of the Week from Sept. 14-15 and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week’s poll.

Here are this week’s nominations:

Dietrich Shuford, Beaufort Academy

Shuford’s interception as time expired sealed the deal for Beaufort Academy in its 28-21 win over Orangeburg Prep.

Jordan Ravenel, Goose Creek

Ravenel returned an interception for a touchdown as Goose Creek edged Blythewood 31-28 for its first win of the season.

Bryce Smalls, Philip Simmons

The 5-foot-10, 200-pound senior was in on a whopping 21 tackles as the Iron Horses remained unbeaten with a 55-30 win over Aynor. Smalls also caused a fumble.

Colt Layton, Calhoun Academy

Layton had 11 tackles and an interception in the Cavaliers’ 7-6 win over Dillon Christian. He also scored Calhoun’s only touchdown on a hook-and-ladder play.

Keonte Rose, South Florence

Rose returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown with about two minutes left in the undefeated Bruins’ 22-19 win over South Pointe. At the time, the Bruins were ahead 14-13.

Donovan Robinson, Thomas Heyward Academy

Robinson made 12 tackles, intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble in the Rebels’ 34-8 win over Dorchester Academy.

Caden Ramsey, Cross

Ramsey intercepted two passes in the Gators’ 54-8 victory over Lake Marion to extend their winning streak to four.
