We have seven athletes nominated this week for SBLive’s Upper State South Carolina Defensive Football Player of the Week from Sept. 7-8 and we ask you, the fans, to help decide who should indeed be the top athlete selected. Voting will conclude on Saturday, September 16 at 11:59 p.m. and the winner will be announced in next week’s poll.

Here are this week’s nominations:

Johnny Jaraczewski, St. Joseph’s

Jaraczewski made 13 tackles, including one for loss, and a pair of sacks in the Knights’ 24-7 win over Seneca.

Adonis Burgess, Chesnee

This guy was all over the place. Burgess had 3.5 tackles, recovered a fumble, blocked a kick and returned a punt 55 yards for a touchdown in a 41-13 win over Rutherford-Spindale Central (N.C.).

Andrew Ruppe, Gaffney

Ruppe returned an interception 84 yards for a touchdown in the Indians’ 24-7 win over Mallard Creek (N.C.). The junior linebacker was also in on four tackles.

Douglas McCloud, Fairfield Central

McCloud returned a fumble for a touchdown as the Griffins rallied for a wild 46-44 win over Lancaster.

Spencer Conn, Daniel

The 6-foot, 200-pound junior returned an interception 23 yards for a touchdown in the undefeated Lions’ 52-21 rout of Hart County (Ga.).

Chris Foster, James F. Byrnes

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound senior was a tackling machine for the Rebels in their 49-13 win over Greer. Foster was in on 18 tackles, 8 of them solo.

Josh Dobson, Catawba Ridge

Dobson, a freshman, returned an interception 99 yards for a touchdown in a 27-14 loss to Audrey Kell (N.C.).
