Coach of the Week

Congratulations to last week's winner: Drew Marlow of South Florence.

Here are this week's nominations.

Anthony Reitenour, Jefferson Davis Academy

It's a big deal when you stop an opponent’s 39-game winning streak. That’s what the Raiders did in a 28-22 overtime win over Holly Hill Academy, the dynastic power in SCISA 8-man football.

Chad Wilkes, Oceanside Collegiate Academy

Wilkes is a daring, innovative coach who is now afraid to take chances. The Landsharks made two risky plays in a game-winning 18-play, 99-yard drive and they both worked in a 14-13 win over Carolina Forest.

Adam Holmes, Gray Collegiate Academy

The War Eagles are facing some stressful times with six region opponents saying they intend to forfeit. But Holmes still has them playing at a very high level. Gray Collegiate routed SCISA superpower Hammond 52-14 on Friday.

Dustin Curtis, Lexington

Curtis has the Wildcats humming at 3-0 in his first year at the helm. Their latest victory was a dramatic 25-24 decision over Stratford on a field goal as time expired. The Wildcats came all the way back from a 21-0 halftime deficit.

Jason Seidel, Blythewood

The Bengals trailed 7-2 to Westwood at halftime. Something that Seidel said must have worked because Blythewood roared back for a 30-20 win.

Jeff Calabrese, Hartsville

An expected showdown between two highly ranked undefeated teams was instead a rout. In an impressive display, the Red Foxes - ranked No. 4 in 4-A, crushed Camden 55-21. Camden was the No. 4-ranked team in 3-A. Calabrese clearly has state title contender in Hartsville.

Reggie Shaw, James F. Byrnes

What's the best way to bounce back from an upset loss? Score a big win. That’s what the Rebels did in a 37-14 pounding of Greenville. The Rebels rolled up 416 yards of total offense in what was a complete win.

Don Shelley, Orangeburg Prep

Who says you can’t go home again? Shelley is one of SCISA’s most decorated coaches, having won state championships at three schools. He's back at Orangeburg Prep, where he won six state championships. The last one was in 1994, the year Orangeburg Prep won a football state title. The Indians beat Northside Christian 15-3 on Friday, giving Shelley his first win in his second stint at OPS.

Ian Rafferty, Summerville

The state’s top-ranked 5-A team continues to roll. Summerville crushed Berkeley 62-27 in the 88th meeting of the two old-time rivals. Rafferty is 3-0 as a coach in the series and played for two Green Wave teams that beat Berkeley.

Mickey Wilson, Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach got flattened 43-0 by Camden in its opener. The Seahawks have recovered in a big way. They beat rival Conway 55-14 and followed that with a 30-9 victory over St. James.
