We are just past the mid-point part of the 2023 high school football season here in Rhode Island and there’s no shortage of underclassmen performing at a high level. It’s no surprise that freshmen are showing out in the Ocean State as that’s been the case in the past many times over. This list of underclassmen features some of the top freshmen football players we’ve seen or have been on the rise in Rhode Island. Take a look at our list and vote for who you feel has been the top performing freshman high school football player in Rhode Island.

Here are the nominations. 

Landon Husereau, QB, Westerly: The freshman quarterback has completed 48-of-79 passes for 775 yards, 12 touchdowns and just five interceptions. Also has rushed for 83 yards and a score. 

Calvin Hill III, Westerly: The middle linebacker has tallied 18 tackles and one has gone for a loss, making an average of three takedowns a contest. 

Tashaad Brown, QB, St. Raphael Academy: Brown has been the next signal caller next to Husereau that’s put up significant yardage, throwing for 361 yards and two touchdowns. 

Onassis Soriano, DB, St. Raphael Academy: The cornerback has seen extensive time in the secondary for the Saints as Soriano has notched two interceptions this season. 

Richard Bridges, ATH, Central: The all-around athlete has played well as a utility player for the Knights, rushing for 143 yards on 11 carries and scoring a touchdown. 

Sebastian Lora, WR, Bishop Hendricken: Lora has been the state leader for freshmen in receiving, catching nine passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns. 

Sam Petrichko, DB, South Kingstown: The safety leads the way for all defensive backs in tackles, as Petrichko has made 23 tackles through six games. 

Tiac’hon Young-Golding, DT, Exeter West Greenwich Prout: The defensive tackle/offensive guard has seen time on both sides of the line. Young-Golding on defense has made six tackles and a sack.
