Dreyden Garner, 4-star athlete, breaks down newly-released top 5

Lincoln (California) four-star wide receiver/athlete Dreyden Garner announced his top five Wednesday

Lincoln (California) four-star wide receiver/athlete Dreyden Garner is one of the most coveted prospects in San Diego.

So far, the 6-foot, 180-pound playmaker has accrued double-digit offers.

But Wednesday, Garner officially trimmed his list to 5 and discussed each of his finalists in detail with SBLive Sports:

Arkansas: "Everything just felt right. ...Very different and far from home, but I felt comfortable my last time out there. With the recent addition, Coach (Ronnie) Fouch, I believe special things can happen with getting more talent from the West Coast. ... Interested in what’s happening on The Hill."

Colorado: "Colorado is a place where I can see myself having great success. Coach Prime [Deion Sanders] has a winning mentality and pushes his players to be successful on and off the field. The offense is also super explosive. Coach (Brett) Bartolone, who I have a great relationship with, just moved to coaching the tight ends, so I’m definitely excited to get out there for a visit to see how the new changes benefit the team."

Oklahoma State: "Coach (Kasey) Dunn, at Oklahoma State, and I have been in constant communication from the moment I stepped foot in Stillwater. His longevity at OSU is a rarity in today’s college world. He’s also from San Diego, which gives us some common ground and helps me relate to him. His résumé speaks for itself, having coached multiple Biletnikoff Award winners."

Ole Miss: "Mississippi is actually where my grandparents are from, so when I received the offer from Ole Miss, it was a great feeling to know that that’s another school where I could have family at some of my games. Coach (Lane) Kiffin and Coach (George) McDonald have such great offensive minds and can really help develop me."

San Diego State: "What’s not to like about the home team? (San Diego State) has a new stadium, a new coach who’s bringing a ton of energy to Daygo, I would get to continue to play in front of family and friends on a regular basis, and I’d already be home for the holidays. San Diego is a known tourist destination. I just happen to be lucky enough to call it my home."

Garner, the nation's No. 15 athlete, doesn't have a timetable in place for making a college decision, but hopes that upcoming visits provide some clarity in the near future.

So far, he has locked in dates for San Diego State (March 16) and Arkansas (March 27), but intends to check out all five programs that made his list when his track scheduled lightens up a bit.

But there's already significant clarity in his recruitment.

The bluechip athlete is down to five.
