Prediction: Nebraska Cornhuskers poised to land key commitment

Nebraska is well-positioned to pick up a key commitment this weekend

The Nebraska Cornhuskers have had stellar in-state recruiting results over the past several months.

Beginning with the commitment of Lincoln East four-star athlete Malachi Coleman, Matt Rhule has built a fence around the home state, securing commitments from the top four Nebraska prospects in the 2024 class - Ainsworth four-star tight end Carter NelsonBellevue West quarterback Daniel Kaelin and wide receivers Dae'vonn Hall and Isaiah McMorris, as well as Elkhorn South offensive tackle Ashton Murphy.

That's the Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 prospects in Nebraska.

The only piece missing? The No. 5 player.

But not for long.

Prediction: Caleb Benning to Nebraska Cornhuskers

Omaha Westside three-star safety Caleb Benning, the nation's No. 49 athlete, holds offers from Duke, Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, Wisconsin and others.

But he is likely to take a massive step forward in his recruitment soon, as he taking a return visit to Lincoln this weekend.

Given that a commitment is nearing, Benning's visit could go a long way in determining his final landing spot.

Add in that Benning is the son of Damon Benning, a former Husker and  analyst for Huskers Radio, and all the pieces seem to fit.

Nebraska appears destined to secure the top six prospects in the home state - with No. 5 coming in shortly.

The next step? Impressing Mater Dei (California) five-star offensive tackle Brandon Baker, who is making his third trek to Lincoln this weekend ahead of his college commitment.
