Sophia Bordi, nation's No. 1 softball prospect, commits to Oklahoma Sooners

Haddon Heights (New Jersey) ace pitcher Sophia Bordi is headed to Oklahoma

Haddon Heights (New Jersey) pitcher Sophia Bordi is the nation's top softball prospect in the class of 2025.

And for good reason.

During her freshman and sophomore seasons, Bordi led her school to consecutive state titles, throwing perfect games in both championship contests.

As a sophomore, she accumulated an 0.43 earned run average and 258 strikeouts while allowing 30 hits and 17 walks in 114 1/3 innings of work, throwing four perfect games in the playoffs. She also hit .346 with 10 home runs.

That made the 5-foot-7 underclassmen a "must-get" prospect on the recruiting trail.

But on Tuesday, Bordi's process came to an abrupt end as she announced her commitment to the Oklahoma Sooners, who are the reigning three-time national champions:

Bordi's commitment actually came Saturday during her official visit to Norman, but she waited until she arrived home to make her decision public.

“I’ve been going to camps there for a few years and it’s always felt like a great environment and a place I wanted to spend four years at," she said. "When I went on a visit it really all came together and felt like a future home for me. That’s when I really fell in love with it.”

Bordi is a perfect fit in Oklahoma's program given her postseason mentality and prowess.

“In championship games or playoff games, in general, I feel even more locked in," she said. "It’s a different kind of play and you’re playing for a lot more.”

While Bordi hopes to earn playing time sooner rather than later with Oklahoma, she is focused on finishing her prep career strong.

Then, she'll worry about becoming an Oklahoma ace - whether that comes in Year 1 or down the road.

“Nothing is promised," Bordi said. "I hope I’ma able to compete for a spot (early). Being able to start and be an ace as a freshman would be amazing, but I know I'll have to earn it."

It'll help that the New Jersey star has already developed four elite pitches - a rise, drop, curve and change-up.

Bordi is the first pledge in Oklahoma's 2025 recruiting class.

And it appears the Sooners' dynasty is unlikely to come an to end anytime soon.
