Oregon Ducks hosting key Texas football prospects, highlighted by 2 of nation's best

Oregon is hosting a key collection of visitors, primarily from the state of Texas

The Oregon Ducks are hosting a key collection of visitors mid-week and they arrived Tuesday.

Duncanville (Texas) five-star duo Colin Simmons and Dakorien Moore are clearly the headliners of the list, but Ridge Point (Texas) four-star wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman, Aledo (Texas) three-star cornerback Chris Johnson II and Duncanville cornerback Javion Holiday are also impressive prospects:

Simmons, who is on an official visit, is rated the nation's No. 5 overall prospect and No. 2 edge-rusher in the class of 2024.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound defender is considering Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Texas and many others.

As a junior, he racked up 80 tackles, 33 tackles-for-loss, 22.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and 13 pass break-ups.

Moore, a class of 2025 prospect, is rated the nation's No. 5 overall prospect and No. 2 wide receiver in his class, and already holds more than 30 scholarship offers, highlighted by Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Texas, USC and others.

As a sophomore, the 6-foot, 180-pound pass-catcher received All-American nods after registering 44 receptions for 767 yards and seven touchdowns, aided by speed that was clocked at 10.63 in the 100-meter dash.

Bethel-Roman, the nation's No. 93 overall prospect and No. 18 wide receiver, received his offer from Oregon in mid-May and is coming off a visit to Texas Tech.

Following the recent decommitment of Tyseer Denmark, the Ducks are still in pursuit of at least one more pass-catcher this cycle.

Johnson II and Holiday are a pair of athletic cornerbacks, in the class of 2024 and 2025, respectively.

In recent years Oregon has made the state of Texas a massive priority, but has struggled to get over the hump to build a pipeline.

That changed in the 2023 recruiting cycle, as Dan Lanning and his coaching staff signed six players from the talent-rich state.

So far in 2024, Lanning's program has a pair of Texas recruits, Forney (Texas) four-star safety Aaron Flowers and Melissa (Texas) three-star defensive lineman/tight end Jackson Ford.

Could the Ducks further solidify the pipeline with a five-star addition?

This series of mid-week visits could prove vital to that effort.
