Prediction: Big commitment incoming for Nebraska Cornhuskers

Nebraska is poised to add a bluechip cornerback Thursday

The Nebraska Cornhuskers appear poised to add a bluechip commitment into the fold very soon.

On Thursday at 5 p.m. PT/7 p.m. CT, DeSoto (Texas) four-star defensive back Mario Buford is set to announce his college commitment and he is down to a final seven of Arkansas, Illinois, Michigan State, Nebraska, Oregon, Penn State and Washington:

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound athlete is rated as the nation's No. 28 cornerback.

So, where is he headed?

Prediction: Mario Buford to Nebraska Cornhuskers

As recently as late April, Buford had expressed serious interest in taking more than five official visits.

Buford indicated he was enjoying the recruiting process and wanted to see as much as possible, while also stating that Nebraska had done a lot to impress him already.

Those plans changed almost immediately following his first official visit to Nebraska last weekend, as he set a commitment date.

Buford already felt like a near-lock to the Cornhuskers even before the trip, but setting a commitment date just days after his trip to Lincoln tells the story.

Not convinced?

The entire recruiting industry seems to feel "Buford to Nebraska" is a near-certainty.

On3 gives the Cornhuskers a 98.4 percent chance of landing Buford, while 100 percent of 247Sports predictions favor the program.

Nebraska's 2024 recruiting class is ranked No. 34 nationally and is led by Rice Consolidated (Texas) four-star athlete Roger Gradney.

But after Thursday's announcement, it seems likely that the Cornhuskers' class will be spearheaded by a pair of Texas blue-chippers.
