In the first edition of "Dan Dickau's starting five," the SBLive Sports VP of Basketball content took a closer look at what has elevated West Linn (Oregon) point guard Jackson Shelstad to five-star status.

Listed as "not rated" on Rivals in the spring of his sophomore season, the Oregon Ducks signee has steadily climbed the rankings to being considered a five-star recruit on the site, as well as the 247Sports composite rankings. 

The 6-foot, 170-pound floor general has an elite handle, the ability to score at all three levels and create his own shot, as well as a high basketball IQ.

All of that, coupled with a tireless work ethic, has turned Shelstad into one of the nation's best guards.

That progress - and elite talent - has been on full display at the Les Schwab Invitational and for Team USA at the Nike Hoop Summit.
