Florida Gators hosting 5-star defensive lineman this weekend
The recruitment of IMG Academy (Florida) five-star defensive lineman David Stone has centered on the Oklahoma Sooners and Michigan State Spartans over the past several months.
But it may not stay that way.
Stone, the nation's No. 7 overall prospect and No. 2 defensive lineman, has been taking more trips recently.
Last weekend, the 6-foot-4, 270-pound defender was at the Oregon spring game.
This weekend, Stone tweeted that he will be in Gainesville to check out the Florida Gators:
While Stone is playing his high school football in Florida, he is originally from the state of Oklahoma and has called Norman "home" on several occasions.
He is also quite high on Michigan State, having visited several times.
Still, it's clear he is still checking out of all of his options.
Florida will get its chance to impress this weekend.

"A disruptive force in the middle that wins with an explosive get-off and heavy hands. Transferred into the national powerhouse that is IMG Academy in advance of his junior season and carved out a role right away. ...The type of interior lineman that offers plenty of value as a pass rusher as he quickly shoots into the backfield and gets to work. Ability to cross opposing linemen and collapse pockets is without a doubt promising, but shouldn’t exactly be viewed as some one-trick pony as he also understands how to shed blocks and eat up gaps. ....Will need to keep progressing and take to coaching, but should be viewed as a potential difference-maker at the Power Five level, especially with his length (has a near 7-foot wingspan on file) and scheme versatility (has played a variety of different techniques at the prep level). ....Likely will need some time before he’s ready for a significant number of snaps on Saturdays. ... NFL upside."
Overall, Florida's 2024 recruiting class is ranked No. 13 nationally and is led by Willis (Texas) five-star quarterback D.J. Lagway and McKinney (Texas) five-star safety Xavier Filsaime.
