Entering the week, only one top-five player in the class of 2024 - Arizona quarterback Dylan Raiola (Ohio State) - had come off the board.

But that changed Tuesday, as Clay-Chalkville High School (Alabama) star Jaylen Mbakwe announced his commitment to the Alabama Crimson Tide:

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound defensive back is rated the nation's No. 5 overall prospect and the No. 1 athlete.

Mbakwe, who projects as a future cornerback, is the top recruit in the state of Alabama and the third pledge for the Crimson Tide in the class of 2024.

He joins a four-star duo of Rome High School (Georgia) athlete Martavious Collins and Foley (Alabama) wide receiver Perry Thompson

Mbakwe's pledge also continues Alabama's recent hot streak, which has consisted of eight pledges in the month of July, highlighted elite running back Justice Haynes, rising quarterback Dylan Lonergan and top European prospect Olaus Alinen
