Southern Columbia 21, Westinghouse 20: Live updates recap from Pennsylvania 2A high school football championship game

State championship time has arrived in Pennsylvania high school football, and the action continues with Southern Columbia vs. Westinghouse Friday afternoon at Cumberland Valley High School.

It will be a rematch of last year’s Class 2A title game between six-time defending champion Southern Columbia (14-1) and Westinghouse (13-0). Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Eastern Friday, Dec. 8.

The Tigers won last year’s meeting, 37-22.

FINAL: Southern Columbia 21, Westinghouse 20

FOURTH QUARTER UPDATES

INTERCEPTION! Jacob Hoy ends the game with an interception. Southern Columbia wins its seventh consecutive state title. 

TOUCHDOWN TIGERS! Carter Madden caps a 99-yard march with a 12-yard touchdown run with 42 seconds on the clock. Isaac Carter's extra-point is good, putting Southern Columbia in front at 21-20. Wild turn of events. 

Southern Columbia, still trailing 20-14, has a first-and-10 from the Westinghouse 18 with 1:09 remaining. 

A defensive holding call on fourth-and-18 gives Southern Columbia new life with 1:41 to play. Wow. 

Southern Columbia has picked up three first downs and is in Westinghouse territory with under four minutes to go. 

GREAT PUNT! A 58-yard punt by Lloyd Penn pins Southern Columbia at the 1 yard line with 6:18 remaining. The Westinghouse lead is still 20-14. 

FOURTH DOWN STOP! The Westinghouse defense again stiffens in the red zone, forcing a fumble on fourth-and-three that is recovered at the 11. With 9:31 to play in the game, the Bulldogs have the ball leading 20-14

THIRD QUARTER UPDATES

Southern Columbia, trailing 20-14, is on the move heading to the fourth quarter. 

TOUCHDOWN BULLDOGS! Green delivers a strike to K-Shawn Hawkins on a go route for a 49-yard touchdown. Westinghouse takes its first lead of the game at 20-14 with 3:38 on the clock. 

TURNOVER ON DOWNS! Westinghouse fakes a punt from the Southern Columbia 35, but the Tigers are all over it. Southern Columbia takes over with 7:23 to go in the period, still tied at 14-14.

Westinghouse will begin the second half with the ball on its own 13. 

HALFTIME NOTES 

Westinghouse and Southern Columbia are locked in a 14-14 tie at halftime. 

The Tigers, who are going for their seventh straight state championship, jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead, but Westinghouse fought back to even the score. The Bulldogs will get the ball to start the second half. 

SECOND QUARTER UPDATES

INTERCEPTION! O’Neal makes a nice play on a corner route and comes up with a pick for Westinghouse. First-and-10 Bulldogs at their own 30 with 3:24 to go in the half, locked in a 14-14 tie. 

TOUCHDOWN BULLDOGS! Green runs it in from five yards out with 6:46 remaining in the period. Westinghouse gets the two-point conversion, and we have a new ball game at 14-14

FOURTH DOWN STOP! The Westinghouse defense stuffs Southern Columbia on a fourth-and-three in the red zone. The Bulldogs take over at their own 12 with 11:15 to play in the half. 

FIRST QUARTER UPDATES 

Southern Columbia will take a 14-6 lead into the second quarter. The Tigers are marching down the field with their methodical wing-T offense.  

TOUCHDOWN BULLDOGS! Quarterback Khalil Green connects with Taymir O’Neal for a 10-yard touchdown. Lloyd Penn helped set up the TD with a diving 46-yard reception. Southern Columbia leads 14-6 with 5:42 to play in the opening quarter. 

PICK-SIX TIGERS! Isaac Carter intercepts a screen pass and rumbles 68 yards to the end zone. 14-0 Tigers with 8:58 to go in the period. 

TOUCHDOWN TIGERS! On the second play from scrimmage, Loudon Murphy takes a fly sweep around the right side 83 yards to the house. Southern Columbia up 7-0 with 11:05 remaining in the quarter. 

Southern Columbia begins the game with the ball at its own 19.

Westinghouse won the toss and deferred to the second half. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET.

The Tigers are looking to secure their 14th PIAA state championship.

Fullback Garrett Garcia (1,693 rushing yards) and running back Loudon Murphy (1,436 yards) are the stars of Southern Columbia’s wing-T offense. Quarterback Blake Wise has thrown for 1,187 yards as a senior.

Westinghouse enters Friday with a perfect 13-0 record. TyJuane Abram is a dangerous threat at running back who takes some of the pressure off Khalil Green, a dual-threat junior quarterback.

Southern Columbia has reached the finals for the ninth consecutive season. The Tigers are a perfect 20-0 in their last 20 PIAA playoff games.

Westinghouse made its first championship game appearance in program history a season ago.
