Pennsylvania high school football roundup: Parkland, Belle Vernon and Mount Carmel among winners (10/13/2023)

Here are five games of note from around the state of Pennsylvania on Friday night

There were plenty of good matchups in high school football around the state of Pennsylvania on Friday night, highlighted by a game between teams in the SBLive Pennsylvania Power 25, as No. 6 Harrisburg defeated No. 14 State College 20-0.

Here are recaps of five games of note around Pennsylvania from Friday night:

No. 4 Parkland 40, Bethlehem Catholic 3

Quarterback Luke Spang ran threw three touchdown passes and ran for another as Parkland remained undefeated. Spang finished the game 16-of-26 with 205 yards passing. 

Trey Tremba ran for 75 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the first half and also had an interception for Parkland's defense. 

Parkland led 33-0 at the half and went up 40-0 late in the third quarter to institute the running clock.

No. 6 Harrisburg 20, No. 14 State College 0

Shawn Lee, Jr. accounted for a pair of touchdowns and the Harrisburg defense blanked State College in the only matchup of SBLive Pennsylvania Power 25 teams on Friday night.

Lee ran for a touchdown to open the scoring and then threw a touchdown pass to Elias Cole to make it 14-0.

Nehemiah Ewell scored from 13 yards out midway through the second quarter to finish the scoring.

No. 7 Pittsburgh Central Catholic 45, Penn Hills 12 

Central Catholic rebounded from its first loss of the season by accumulating 440 yards of offense against Penn Hills.

Quarterback Payton Wehner was 19-of-29 for 282 yards passing and three total touchdowns, while running back Elijah Faulkner ran 27 times for 143 yards and three scores.

Central Catholic took control early as Wehner threw two touchdown passes int he first 4:39 of the game.

No. 12 Belle Vernon 55, Mt. Pleasant 7

The Leopards scored 42 points in the first half en route to a dominating win Friday night.

On Belle Vernon's second play from scrimmage, Anthony Crews took it 82 yards for a touchdown.

Penn State commit Quinton Martin scored three touchdowns, as he scored on two runs from 25 yards each and caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Curtis Wade. 

Wade threw for a pair of scores and Kole Doppelheuer scored twice in the second half for Belle Vernon.

Mount Carmel 42, No. 13 Southern Columbia 30

Mount Carmel jumped out to a 35-8 lead to knock off Southern Columbia and end the Tigers' 15-game win streak.

Luke Blessing scored four touchdowns for the Red Tornadoes, including the first two scores of the game less than six minutes into the first quarter.

Quarterback Cole Spears and wide receiver Xavier Diaz connected for the other two Mount Carmel touchdowns on a 45-yard play and a 32-yard score.

Garrett Garcia and Louden Murphy each scored two touchdowns for Southern Columbia.
