Who are the top high school wide receivers in Pennsylvania in 2023?

The 2023 high school football season is finally here.

SBLive set out to find the best offensive and defensive players in the state at each position. 

We started with the quarterbacks, running backslinebackers and defensive backs. Now we move on to those catch the ball as we take a look at some of the top wide receivers in Pennsylvania entering the 2023 season. Players from all classifications received consideration.

Jaylen Andrews, sr., Loyalsock Township

A top target of quarterback Tyler Gee, Andrews hauled in 59 passes for 1,401 yards and 22 touchdowns during his junior season. He was voted Class 3A all-state.

Isaiah Brown, sr., Armstrong

Brown was a touchdown machine during his junior season for Armstrong. He caught 50 passes for 890 yards and scored 19 times. Brown has 27 career receiving TDs entering his senior year.

Jareel Calhoun, jr., Allentown Central Catholic

Calhoun led the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference in receptions last season, catching 88 passes for 772 yards and four touchdowns. He was a Class 4A all-state selection.

Elias Coke, so., Harrisburg

Coke made an impact as a freshman, catching 25 passes for 412 yards and six touchdowns for Class 6A power Harrisburg. One of the best sophomore wide receiver recruits in the country, Coke already holds offers from Florida State, Michigan and Penn State, among others. 

Lex Cyrus, jr., Susquehanna Township

Cyrus is a speed demon who won the Class 3A 100-meter title in the spring with a personal-record time of 10.45 seconds. Cyrus’ football offers include Nebraska, Penn State, Texas A&M and Wisconsin.

Tyseer Denmark, sr., Roman Catholic

Playing in a run-heavy offense, Denmark still caught 53 passes for 892 yards and 10 touchdowns last fall en route to Class 5A all-state recognition. The four-star receiver flipped his commitment from Oregon to Penn State over the summer.

Aaron Enterline, sr., Manheim Central

Star quarterback Zac Hahn likes to get the ball to Enterline, who had 42 catches for 994 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior. Enterline is also a dangerous punt returner.

Joey Flail, sr., North Schuylkill

A starter since his freshman year, Flail had 54 receptions for 847 yards and 15 touchdowns during his junior season for North Schuylkill. He also rushed for six TDs and was voted to the Class 3A all-state team.

Reese Gaughan, sr., Riverside

The Lackawanna Football Conference’s all-time leader in career receptions, Gaughan enters his senior season with 171 catches for 2,265 yards and 22 touchdowns. The two-time Class 2A all-state selection also ran for 663 yards a season ago while scoring four times on special teams.

Pete Gonzalez, sr., Pittsburgh Central Catholic

The 6-foot-3 Gonzalez possesses ideal size and 10.86 speed in the 100 meters. He missed some time early in his junior season while recovering from a knee injury but still had 42 catches for 737 yards and eight touchdowns. A Class 6A all-state selection last year, Gonzalez committed to Penn State in June.

Jalil Hall, jr., Monsignor Bonner

Hall set the Monsignor Bonner single-season school record for touchdown receptions as a sophomore with 14. He finished with 31 catches for 613 yards. Now a 6-foot-4 junior, Hall’s Division I offers include Nebraska, Rutgers and Virginia Tech. 

Landon Kennel, sr., Manheim Township

A Monmouth commit, Kennel was the Lancaster-Lebanon League co-receiver of the year in 2022. He caught 66 passes for 737 yards and a whopping 15 touchdowns as a junior.

Conor McFadden, sr., Central Bucks West

McFadden is a senior speedster who holds Division I offers from Army and Navy. A season ago, McFadden finished with 1,020 all-purpose yards.

Khameen Powell, sr., Ridley

An electric athlete, Powell had 45 receptions for 693 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior. He also rushed for 220 yards and averaged 31.5 yards per kickoff return.

Brandon Rehmann, sr., St. Joseph’s Prep

Rehmann, a speedy offensive weapon, hauled in 23 passes for 466 yards and six touchdowns as a junior. Rehmann will play college football for West Virginia.

Michael Scott, jr., Dallastown

Scott is on the smaller side at 5-foot-9 and 155 pounds, but he makes up for it with speed. Scott has been laser timed at 4.44 in the 40 and has 816 career receiving yards for Dallastown.

Rico Scott, sr., Bishop McDevitt

One of the top playmakers in the state, Scott had 66 receptions for 1,184 yards and 18 touchdowns as a junior. The four-star Alabama commit made the Class 4A all-state team last fall. 

Thomas Smyser, sr., Dover

Smyser was voted Class 5A all-state after catching 59 passes for 1,170 yards and nine touchdowns as a junior. He was also a defensive standout who piled up 61 tackles and four interceptions.

Damian Tyminski, sr., Pen Argyl

A small-school star, Tyminski had 65 caches for 1,032 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior while recording 68 tackles and two forced fumbles on defense. He was voted Class 2A all-state at receiver.

David Washington Jr., sr., St. Joseph’s Prep

Washington Jr. hauled in 46 passes for nearly 700 yards and six touchdowns en route to Class 6A all-state honors as a junior. Washington Jr. will play college football in the SEC for Kentucky.
