The Class 6A Oregon high school girls basketball playoffs tipped off Wednesday with Round 1 action around the state. Here's a game-by-game summary of the action.

South Medford 67, Central Catholic 22 

The top-seeded Panthers sprinted to a 38-8 halftime lead and never looked back at South Medford High School.

South Medford senior Kim Ceron-Romero led all scorers with 16 points. She had three steals. Sophomore Jordan Barlow stepped up with 12 points, four rebounds and three steals. Sophomore guard Taylor Young had 11 points and five steals. Junior Sara Schmerbach added 11 points, five rebounds and three assists, and sophomore Mayen Akpan had seven points and nine rebounds.

Senior Yasmin Woodard led Central Catholic with six points.

South Medford, the Southwest Conference champion, moved to 22-3. The Panthers will be home to face Sherwood in a second-round game Saturday.

Central Catholic, the No. 4 team out of the Mt. Hood Conference, finished its season 11-14.

Sherwood 54, Cleveland 42

The Bowmen continued their strong late-season surge, powering their way to victory at Sherwood High School.

Senior forward Ava Heiden led the way for Sherwood with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Izabella Macris and senior Sabrina Flowers each scored eight points. Junior Kylie Yamanaka added seven.

Senior guard Addy Huss sank five 3-pointers and scored 23 points to pace the Warriors. Senior guard/forward Malia Waiwaiole added eight points.

With the win, its 10th in a row, Sherwood improved to 16-9. The Bowmen will play at top-seeded South Medford in a second-round contest Saturday.

Cleveland, the No. 3 team out of the Portland Interscholastic League, finished its season 17-9.

West Linn 80, Sunset 68

The Lions, after holding just a 36-35 halftime lead, pulled away in the second half to earn a hard-fought victory at West Linn High School.

“Sunset head coach Devarieous Sly-Clay had his team well-prepared, and they played very hard for 32 minutes,” West Linn coach Brooke Cates said. “We were able to make several adjustments in the second half that allowed us to create a number of turnovers that led to transition baskets. Both teams competed at a very high level for 32 minutes.”

Freshman Kaylor Buse led the way for West Linn with a game-high 27 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Reese Jordan added 20 points and five rebounds. Senior Alaina Moore scored 13 points, and sophomore Alya Arnold had 10.

Senior Riley Morris-Rexford and senior Gabriella Ramm each scored 14 for the Apollos.

West Linn, the Three Rivers League runner-up, moved to 18-7. The Lions will play at Southridge in a second-round contest Saturday.

Sunset, which tied for fourth place in the Metro League, finished its season 13-13.

Southridge 60, Glencoe 44

The Skyhawks got off to a fast start and fought off the Crimson Tide the rest of the way to get the win at Southridge High School.

Southridge claimed an 18-9 lead after one quarter and increased the advantage to 32-20 at halftime behind sophomore Sara Mangan’s 16 first-half points.

Glencoe trimmed the deficit to 36-27 on a layup by sophomore Makena Petrick with 5 minutes and 50 seconds remaining in the third quarter. But the Skyhawks quickly regained momentum when Mangan answered with a 3-pointer from the left corner. From there, Southridge pulled away.

Mangan finished with a game-high 23 points, sinking three 3-pointers. Sophomore Addison White came off the bench to add 10 points. Senior Audrey Meek had five points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Junior wing Maddie Eischen paced Glencoe with 19 points. Petrick added seven.

Southridge, which shared the Metro League title, improved to 21-4. The Skyhawks will play host to West Linn in a second-round game Saturday.

Glencoe, the No. 5 team out of the Pacific Conference, finished its season 13-12.

Willamette 46, Newberg 30

The Wolverines took charge in a big way in the second half to triumph at Willamette High School.

Willamette, after holding a 22-14 halftime advantage, outscored the Tigers 15-2 in the third quarter.

Junior guard Brynn Smith scored 15 points, sinking three 3-pointers, in leading the way for the Wolverines. Junior Isabella Harms added 12 points. Junior Harper Wagner scored seven points, and freshman Aaliyah Ireland had six.

Junior Peyton Lindell led Newberg with eight points. Sophomore Kuenzi Blubaugh added seven.

Willamette, the Southwest Conference runner-up, moved to 19-7. The Wolverines will be home to face Oregon City in a second-round game Saturday.

Newberg, the No. 6 squad out of the Pacific Conference, finished its season 10-15.

Oregon City 72, South Salem 50

The Pioneers turned a balanced attack into an impressive victory at Oregon City High School.

Nearly every player on the Oregon City roster got in the scoring category. Senior guard Kaitlen Carns led the balanced attack with 10 points. Senior Megan Craig scored nine points, and senior Mollie Miller added eight.

South Salem sophomore Brook Tate led all scorers with 20 points. She had seven rebounds and three blocks. Sadie Paterson added 12 points for the Saxons.

Oregon City, the No. 3 squad out of the Three Rivers League, improved to 17-8. The Pioneers will travel to Willamette on Saturday for a second-round clash.

South Salem, the Central Valley Conference runner-up, finished its season 15-10.

Forest Grove 53, Westview 48

The Vikings survived a battle, coming away with a hard-fought victory at Forest Grove High School.

Senior guard Lauren Buchanan paced Forest Grove with 15 points. Sophomore wing/post Cali Davis added 14.

Freshman Dara Oluwafemi led Westview with 15 points. Senior Kaleah Medeiros added 13.

Forest Grove, the No. 3 team out of the Pacific Conference, improved to 20-5. The Vikings will travel to Jefferson for a second-round contest Saturday.

Westview, which tied for fourth place in the Metro League, ended its season 12-14.

Jefferson 59, Tigard 29

The Democrats roared to a big victory over the Tigers at Jefferson High School.

Jefferson, which shared the Portland Interscholastic League championship, improved to 23-2. The Democrats will play host to Forest Grove in a second-round game Saturday.

Tigard, the No. 4 squad out of the Three Rivers League, finished its season 11-14.

McMinnville 62, Wells 32

The Grizzlies turned a close game into a big win at McMinnville High School.

The upstart Guardians held a 22-21 halftime lead over third-seeded McMinnville, but the Grizzlies outscored the visitors 41-10 in the second half to get the 30-point victory.

McMinnville, which shared the Pacific Conference crown, improved to 22-3. The Grizzlies will play host to Grants Pass in a second-round game Saturday.

Wells, which tied for fourth place in the Portland Interscholastic League, ended its season 12-14.

Grants Pass 59, Barlow 27

The Cavers got defensive and came away with a big win at Grants Pass High School.

Grants Pass limited the Bruins to 10 first-half points as it jumped out to a 22-point halftime lead.

Senior guard Brooke Anderson led the way with 20 points, getting 18 in the first half. She had five rebounds and four steals. Senior forward Brooklyn Wakefield added a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds to go with three steals and two blocks, and she took a charge.

Senior Kylie Ihrig and senior Laelie Rasmussen each scored eight points for Barlow.

Grants Pass, the No. 3 team out of the Southwest Conference, moved to 17-9. The Cavers will play at McMinnville in a second-round game Saturday.

Barlow, the No. 3 team out of the Mt. Hood Conference, finished its season 15-11.

Nelson 55, Liberty 20

The Hawks clamped down on defense in getting the victory at Nelson High School.

After trailing the Falcons 11-8 at the end of the first quarter, Nelson limited Liberty to nine points the rest of the way.

Sophomore Lainey Day and freshman Love Forde each scored 15 points to lead the way for Nelson.

Junior Kennedy Reamer led the Falcons with six points.

With the win, its sixth in a row, Nelson, the Mt. Hood Conference runner-up, moved to 22-3. The Hawks will travel to face Benson in a second-round contest Saturday.

Liberty, the No. 4 squad out of the Pacific Conference, ended its season 9-16.

Benson 87, McNary 31

The Techsters kept rolling, getting a big victory at the Marshall Campus.

With the win, its 14th in a row, Benson, which shared the Portland Interscholastic League title, improved to 20-4. The Techsters will play host to Nelson in a second-round contest Saturday.

McNary, which tied for the runner-up spot in the Central Valley Conference, finished its season 15-10.

Tualatin 45, Grant 19

The Timberwolves, behind their stout defense, got off to a fast start and never looked back at Tualatin High School.

Tualatin set the tone early, grabbing a 23-4 halftime lead before cruising to victory.

Sophomore Maaya Lucas had a double-double for the Timberwolves with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Jordyn Smith and sophomore Lexi Poulivaati each scored eight points. Sophomore Alex Padilla added seven points and eight steals.

Freshman Charlotte Wilson had eight points to lead the Generals.

With the win, its 10th in a row, Tualatin, the Three Rivers League champion, improved to 20-4. The Timberwolves will play host to Jesuit in a second-round tilt Saturday.

Grant, which tied for fourth place in the Portland Interscholastic League, finished its season 14-12.

Jesuit 56, Sheldon 30

The Crusaders found themselves facing a one-point deficit at halftime but came roaring back in the second half to secure the win at Jesuit High School.

The Irish claimed a 21-20 advantage at the end of the second quarter. Jesuit outscored the visitors 36-9 over the final 16 minutes.

Junior guard Audrey Bayless, despite having some early foul trouble, led the way for the Crusaders with 22 points, six rebounds and an assist. Senior post Kendra Hicks had eight points, 18 rebounds, four assists and a steal. Sophomore guard Amani Lubrano added 10 points, three rebounds and an assist. Sophomore Sophia Costarella had nine points, two rebounds, an assist and three steals.

Morgan Raleigh, Emerson Kearney and Jayden Mayernik each scored six points for Sheldon.

Jesuit, which shared the Metro League title, moved to 19-6. The Crusaders will travel to Tualatin for a second-round game Saturday.

Sheldon, the No. 4 team out of the Southwest Conference, finished its season 13-13.

West Salem 52, Beaverton 42 (OT)

The Titans pulled away in overtime to get the victory at West Salem High School.

Freshman Karlee Martirano helped push West Salem to the win, getting five quick points in overtime as part of her game-high total of 18. Sophomore Chica Casas added 15 points for the Titans, and sophomore Samantha Griffin added 11.

Beaverton, playing without starting point guard Indie Browning, who has been out of action the past two weeks, got 10 points from sophomore Alexia Braden and seven from freshman Ashlyn Hicks.

West Salem, the Central Valley Conference champion, moved to 17-8. The Titans will play at Clackamas in a second-round contest Saturday.

Beaverton, which shared the Metro League title, finished its season 16-9.

Clackamas 80, North Medford 25 

The second-seeded Cavaliers took an impressive first postseason step in their quest to defend their state championship, sprinting to victory at Clackamas High School.

Junior guard Jazzy Davidson led the way for Clackamas with 31 points and eight rebounds. Junior Sara Barhoum added 21 points on a 55-percent shooting night from 3-point range. Junior Dylan Mogel scored nine points. Junior Allie Roden added eight, and junior Avery Peterson finished with six. 

Junior Caileigh Raines led the Black Tornado with eight points. 

With the win, its 11th in a row, Clackamas improved to 21-3. The Cavaliers will play host to West Salem in a second-round game Saturday. 

North Medford, which tied for fourth place in the Southwest Conference, finished its season 9-16.
