Hardwood Invite coming to Portland area; Jacob Cofie, Terrence Hill headline 2023 field

High school basketball showcase will feature several of top teams, prospects in Pacific Northwest

A budding Pacific Northwest winter high school basketball showcase is relocating to the Portland area, and boasts some of the region's top teams and prospects for the third consecutive year.

The Hardwood Invite is coming to Parkrose High School Dec. 16-20 after its first two years taking place in the Seattle area, and it's headlined by the top prospect in Washington.

Eastside Catholic forward/center Jacob Cofie, who signed with Virginia on Wednesday, is the top-rated prospect in a field that includes seven teams from Oregon, six from Washington and three from out of the region.

Cofie is the nation's No. 15 forward and the top-rated prospect in Washington. The 6-foot-9, 225-pound forward is a three-year standout for head coach Brent Merritt.

Smoky Hills (Colorado), one of the out-of-state schools in the field, is led by top 2026 prospect Carter Basquez, a 6-foot-5 guard who was one of the top underclassmen in the state as a freshman.

Last December, Seattle Metro League power Garfield thrashed Roosevelt (Oregon) to win its second consecutive Hardwood Invite title behind Jaylin Stewart (UConn) and Sherrell McCullum's combined 62 points.
