3A Oregon high school football playoff races: What’s at stake in Week 9

A league-by-league look at the playoff possibilities in Class 3A entering the final week of the regular season

Here’s a league-by-league look at the playoff possibilities in Class 3A entering the last week of the regular season.

Fifteen teams automatically qualify for the 3A state playoffs, plus one at-large berth to the highest-ranked non-automatic qualifier.

Coastal Range (3)

Who’s in: Banks (8-0, 5-0 CRL, OSAA #1), Kennedy (7-1, 4-1, #3)

Who’s out: Valley Catholic (3-5, 1-5, #22), Rainier (1-7, 0-5, #31)

At stake this week: Yamhill-Carlton (5-3, 3-2, #10) has the simplest task — win at home against North Marion (2-6, 2-3, #23), and the Tigers nab the final automatic berth. Warrenton (5-3, 3-2, #14) still has a faint chance at the final automatic spot and is very much in the hunt for the lone at-large berth.

PacWest (3)

Who’s in: Dayton (8-0, 6-0 PWC, #2), Santiam Christian (6-3, 5-1, #13), Scio (6-2, 4-2, #12)

Who’s out: Taft (4-4, 3-3, #24), Amity (2-6, 2-4, #28), Newport (1-7, 1-5, #30), Jefferson (0-7, 0-6, #36)

At stake this week: Salem Academy (4-4, 3-3, #15) finishes with Newport and could claim the only at-large spot in the bracket.

Far West (4)

Who’s in: Cascade Christian (8-0 FWL, #4), Lakeview (7-1, #5), North Valley (6-2, #8), South Umpqua (6-2, #11)

Who’s out: Sutherlin (3-5, #25), Brookings-Harbor (1-7, #27), Douglas (1-7, #29), Phoenix (0-8, #34)

At stake this week: Coquille (4-4, #18) travels to Medford to face St. Mary’s (4-4, #17), with the winner hoping a victory boosts its OSAA ranking enough to grab 3A’s lone at-large berth.

Mountain Valley (3)

Who’s in: Sisters (7-1, 5-0 MVC, #7), Elmira (6-2, 5-1, #9)

Who’s out: Creswell (2-6, 1-4, #21), Harrisburg (2-6, 1-4, #32)

At stake this week: Sisters has clinched the conference's No. 1 seed and a first-round home game. Siuslaw (4-4, 3-2, #16) would secure the MVC’s final berth by beating Pleasant Hill (4-4, 2-3, #20). La Pine (2-6, 2-3, #26) needs a win against Creswell to forge a three-way tie if the Billies defeat Siuslaw.

Eastern Oregon (2)

Who’s in: Vale (7-0, 3-0 EOL, #6)

Who’s out: Umatilla (1-7, 1-2, #33), McLoughlin (0-7, 0-4, #37)

At stake this week: The tiebreakers favor Vale even if the Vikings lose the Black and Blue Bowl to Nyssa (2-6, 2-1, #35). Burns (3-4, 2-1, #19) would need to lose to Umatilla and see the Bulldogs topple Vale to miss the postseason.
